Indiana State, Western Illinois shift baseball game to Wednesday due to expected inclement weather

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State is back at Bob Warn Field this week for the midweek contest against Western Illinois as the Sycamores host the Leathernecks on Wednesday, May 6, with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m.
 
The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday night, but due to expected inclement weather in the Wabash Valley region, the contest was shifted to a Wednesday contest. The game will be carried live on ESPN+ and 105.5 The Legend.
 
Recapping Last Weekend
  • Indiana State claimed its sixth consecutive Missouri Valley Conference series win as the Sycamores took two of the three games at Southern Illinois to improve to 12-6 in conference play.
  • The Sycamores are in a three-way tie for first in the conference standings with both Murray State (12-6) and UIC (12-6) with two weekends to play.
  • Indiana State took the 8-5 victory on Friday night and then bounced back from Saturday's 2-1 defeat to defeat the Salukis 14-3 on Sunday afternoon to secure the series.
  • The series win over Southern Illinois marked the first time Indiana State opened conference play winning the first six series since the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
  • Mason Roell connected on the big hit on Friday night with an eighth-inning grand slam to cap a six-run rally as Indiana State claimed the 8-5 win.
  • Southern Illinois limited Indiana State to just three hits on Saturday night with Carter Beck's double the big hit on the night in the 2-1 loss.
  • The Indiana State offense rebounded with 15 hits on Sunday afternoon and Nick Sutherlin and Weston Fulk both drove in three RBIs apiece as the Sycamores claimed the 14-3 series win.
  • Nomar Garcia swung the top bat for the Sycamores on the week with a .364 batting average and reached base six times over 13 plate appearances.
  • Nick Sutherlin (.308) added four hits, a double, and a triple, while scoring four runs and driving in five RBIs over the weekend series.
  • Colin Sander (.300) also hit above the .300 mark and reached base six times over 15 plate appearances.

  • Jack Armstrong and Colby Morse both made multiple appearances on the mound, while Carson Seeman recorded his team-leading seventh win on the mound.

  • The Indiana State offense features a variety of players sitting among the tops in the Missouri Valley in multiple offensive categories heading into the weekend competition.
  • Mason Roell (.360) is currently third in the Valley in batting average and third in on-base percentage (.474), while posting 18 extra-base hits over 35 games played.
  • Carter Beck continues to lead the Valley in RBIs with 48 and runs scored with 51, while sitting third in the conference in home runs (11) and second in total extra-base hits (30).
  • The Sycamores have four athletes in the top six in runs batted in with Carter Beck (48), Nick Sutherlin (46), and Caden Miller (43) among the Valley leaders.
  • Emil Estrella is also among the tops in the conference sitting third overall with 17 stolen bases.
  • Pitchers Carson Seeman and Ty Brooks are both among the Valley's leaders in wins on the mound with Seeman second overall with a 7-0 record, while Brooks is tied for third with a 5-3 mark on the bump.
  • Ty Brooks remains in the top 10 in the conference overall in ERA with a 3.99 mark over 65.1 innings pitched.
  • Jack Armstrong and Colby Morse are both tied for sixth in the conference overall with three saves apiece.
  • The Sycamores lead the Missouri Valley in a number of team offensive categories including doubles (105), scoring (7.6 runs per game), slugging percentage (0.473), home runs (60), walks (221), and defensive double plays (3442
  • Overall, the Sycamores' pitching staff have pitched a Valley-high 416.2 innings on the year resulting in a 6.00 ERA with a 362:250 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
  • Seven different Sycamore pitchers have made at least 15 appearances on the mound this season. 
Series History Against Western Illinois
  • Indiana State meets up with Western Illinois for the first time since the 2018 season as the Sycamores host the Leathernecks on Wednesday night.
  • The Sycamores hold the all-time 22-14 advantage over WIU and are on a six-game winning streak dating back to 2012.
  • The first meeting between the two programs came back in 1950 with Indiana State topping Western Illinois in a doubleheader by scores of 11-10 and 5-2.
