Gregersen signs professional contract with Arizona Diamondbacks

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State baseball alum Simon Gregersen signed a professional contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks organization as announced last week. Gregersen has yet to be assigned to a team within the organization at this time.

Gregersen becomes the eighth player from the 2024 Indiana State baseball team to sign a contract with an MLB team joining Luke Hayden (Cincinnati Reds), Grant Magill (Chicago White Sox), Luis Hernandez (Minnesota Twins), Randal Diaz (Washington Nationals), Jacob Pruitt (Philadelphia Phillies), Cole Gilley (Philadelphia Phillies), and Jared Spencer (Toronto Blue Jays).

The Elk River, Minn. Native was one of Indiana State's top bullpen arms over his two seasons with the program, making 36 career appearances with two starts, while posting a 4.22 ERA. He recorded a career 1-2 record with nine career saves over 59.2 innings pitched, while posting a 66:24 strikeout-to-walk ratio and a .220 opponent batting average.

Gregersen made his mark in key moments over his career with the Sycamores highlighted by a 4.1 inning start in the 2023 MVC Baseball Tournament Championship Game where the right-hander allowed just three hits while striking out six. He went on to post one of the most iconic strikeouts in program history as he closed out the 2023 Terre Haute Regional final game going 3.1 innings while striking out six, including the game-ending punch out against Iowa to advance Indiana State to the first Super Regional in program history.

Gregersen has hit spot in the Indiana State record book posting the eighth-lowest opponent batting average in school history (.222) and the 20th-most strikeouts per nine innings (9.58). He also recorded the third-lowest walks per nine innings in a single game (min. 25 IP) in the 2023 season (1.08).
