ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Indiana State pitcher Spencer Johsen was named this week's Missouri Valley Pitcher of the Week following his performance on Sunday afternoon against Evansville.
Johnsen worked a career-high 7.1 innings and was masterful in shutting down the Aces' offense over the weekend. The junior left-hander allowed just four hits and two unearned runs, while striking out a career-high nine batters in the series finale at Bob Warn Field.
Johnsen recorded at least two strikeouts in the first, third, and fifth innings against Evansville and retired the final eight batters he faced before turning the ball over to the Indiana State bullpen with one out in the eighth inning in a 2-2 contest.
The Huntington Beach, Calif. native surpassed his previous high in innings pitched after going 5.0 innings in the win at Illinois State on April 12, while his nine strikeouts against the Aces passed his previous mark of seven set also against the Redbirds.
Johnsen becomes the fifth different Indiana State player to receive one of the conference's weekly honors and the first Sycamore pitcher to receive the recognition in 2026.
