TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State is back in Missouri Valley play this weekend as the Sycamores welcome Evansville in a key conference series over April 24-26 at Bob Warn Field. All three games will be carried live on 105.5 The Legend.
The series features two of the four teams currently tied for first in the Missouri Valley standings with four weekends to play as Indiana State (8-4), Evansville (8-4), Murray State (10-5), and UIC (10-5) all sit with a .667 win margin in conference competition. The Sycamores hold the edge over UIC courtesy of their series win over the Flames (2-1) back on April 2-4 at Bob Warn Field, with Indiana State still set to travel to Murray State on May 8-10.

Recapping The Midweek
- Indiana State completed the season sweep over Purdue as the Sycamores topped the Boilermakers on Tuesday night at Alexander Field, 6-5. It marked Indiana State's 10th consecutive win at Purdue dating back to the 2012 season.
- The win completed the season sweep following the Sycamores' 12-4 win over Purdue back on March 31 at Bob Warn Field.
- Similar to the Sycamores' earlier win over Purdue, Indiana State utilized an early big offensive output as the Sycamores set 10 batters to the plate in the third inning with five runs crossing in building the early lead.
- Nomar Garcia provided the big hit in the inning with a two-run single up the middle, while Jeremy Martinez (RBI single) and Caleb Niehaus (RBI double) both drove in runs in the frame.
- Carter Beck added an RBI single in the sixth inning to extend the lead to 6-3, before a lightning and rain delay ended up pushing competition back.
- The Sycamores and Boilermakers sat through a 1:27 delay at Alexander Field, before play resumed around 10 p.m.
- Purdue put together a late rally with back-to-back home runs in the eighth to pull back within one, before Jack Armstrong worked a 1-2-3 ninth with a pair of strikeouts to secure his second save of the season.
- Carter Beck and Caleb Niehaus both recorded multi-hit efforts in the game, while Colin Sander and Niehaus both doubled in the win.
- Emil Estrella added two more stolen bases to his totals, including a theft of third base in the third inning that resulted in an errant throw and a Sycamore run.
- Carson Seeman (5-0) picked up his fifth win of the season going 2.0 innings in scoreless relief, allowing three hits while striking out two.
Season Spotlight
- The Indiana State offense features a variety of players sitting among the tops in the Missouri Valley in multiple offensive categories heading into the weekend competition.
- Mason Roell (.386) is the Valley's batting average leader, while Carter Beck (44) and Caden Miller (40) are first and second on the conference's RBI leaderboard.
- Carter Beck also leads the MVC in runs scored (45), while Emil Estrella (38) is third and Nick Sutherlin (37) is tied for fourth overall.
- Carter Beck is second in the league with 11 home runs, tied for second with 14 doubles, and third overall in the Valley with 60 hits to his name.
- Emil Estrella is third in the conference with three triples and third overall in the Valley with 14 stolen bases.
- Ty Brooks (5-2, 4.20 ERA) and Carson Seeman (5-0, 6.66 ERA) are both tied for second overall in the Missouri Valley with total wins on the mound, while Brooks is third overall in the conference in WHIP (1.15).
- Colin Sander (.330) continues to produce in the Indiana state lineup as well with the switch-hitting second baseman posting six doubles, three triples, and four home runs over 23 games played.
- Jeremy Martinez (.296) is also back in the lineup as the 2025 Co-MVC Freshman of the Year is producing at the plate with 10 extra-base hits while adding 14 RBIs.
- The Sycamores enter the weekend with 94 doubles on the year, sitting ninth overall in the NCAA in the statistical category. Four Sycamores have hit double-digit doubles on the season with Carter Beck (14), Emil Estrella (11), Caden Miller (11), and Nick Sutherlin (11) all achieving the feat.
- Indiana State's pitching staff has combined for a 6.58 team ERA over 362.2 innings pitched, while posting a 316:228 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
- Seven different Sycamore pitchers have made at least 15 appearances on the mound this season.
Sycamores in Valley Play
- Indiana State has turned it up offensively in Missouri Valley competition with the Sycamores hitting .349 from the plate with 61 extra-base hits, including 25 home runs over their 12 conference games.
- Mason Roell (.516), Colin Sander (.422), and Carter Beck (.415) have all been among the team's hitting leaders from the plate with the trio combining for 16 home runs, nine doubles, and two triples to go with 52 RBIs.
- Carter Beck and Mason Roell both have six home runs apiece in conference play, while Colin Sander and Emil Estrella have both homered four times.
- Overall, seven Sycamores have hit at least .320 in conference play at the plate.
- Ryan Karst (2-0, 1.06 ERA) has been among the Valley's best since assuming a weekend role after posting starts against Bradley, Valparaiso, and Illinois State.
- Ty Brooks (2-2, 6.30 ERA) has started all four weekends in conference play, while Spencer Johnsen (1-0, 1.04 ERA) went 5.1 innings with seven strikeouts in his last conference start against Illinois State.
- Overall, the Sycamores have posted a 5.52 ERA over 101.0 innings pitched in conference play, while allowing opponents to hit just .265 from the plate.
Series History Against Evansville
- The weekend continues one of the longest consistent series in Indiana State and Evansville program histories dating back to the first matchup in 1911.
- Indiana State holds the 117-77 all-time advantage in the series, but Evansville has won four of the last five contests, including two of three last year at GAB Field.
About the Evansville
- Evansville heads into the week with a 15-22 record, 8-4 mark in conference play, but a 6-14 mark overall away from home.
- The Purple Aces travel to Southern Indiana on Wednesday night, before the weekend series at Indiana State.
- Evansville has won all four MVC series they have played to date with 2-1 marks against Illinois State, Bradley, Southern Illinois, and Belmont.
- The Purple Aces are hitting .233 as a team over the course of the 2026 season led by Drew McConnell's .292 batting average, while Reid Haire has a team-high seven home runs and 23 RBIs.
- Reagan Reeder is also among the team's leaders with seven home runs and 21 RBIs.
