Sycamores Fall in Tournament Opener at Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Indiana State opened its weekend at the Ohio State Tournament on Friday afternoon, falling to the host Buckeyes 10-0 in five innings at Buckeye Field. 

The Sycamores (15-13) looked to strike early in the first inning after Morgan Goodrich and Madison Poulson both reached on singles and moved into scoring position with double steals. However, Ohio State starter Jenna Meeks managed to escape the jam and kept the ISU bats quiet for the remainder of the contest. 

Ohio State took control in the bottom of the second, using four hits to plate four runs. The Buckeyes added to their lead in the fourth inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Cruse, to reach the final 10-0 margin and trigger the run rule. 

How They Scored 

  • Ohio State: Parisien doubled to left-center, scoring Neal (0-1). 

  • Ohio State: Cruse reached on an error; Parisien and Bewick scored (0-3). 

  • Ohio State: Lang singled to left-center, scoring Cruse (0-4). 

  • Ohio State: Parisien singled to center field, scoring Limon (0-5). 

  • Ohio State: Cruse homered to left field, scoring Bewick and Parisien (0-8). 

  • Ohio State: Ricks doubled to center field, scoring Lang and Neal (0-10). 

News and Notes 

  • Morgan Goodrich led off the game with a single and added her 20th stolen base of the season.

  • Madison Poulson broke the 30 mark of hits of the year with a first-inning single to second base. 

  • Caylee Gaytan made the start in the circle, recording a strikeout in 3.1 innings of work.
