TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State's
Ty Brooks was named to the National Pitcher of the Year watch list as announced by the College Baseball Foundation on Wednesday afternoon.
The Sycamore right-hander is the first Indiana State pitcher to be named to the CBF's National Pitcher of the Year watch list since Jeff Degano received the recognition in the 2015 season. Brooks is one of three pitchers in the Missouri Valley to receive the honor joining Murray State's Nick Schuette and Bradley's William Soignier on the list as the trio join 142 total pitchers named to the list.
Brooks leads the Indiana State pitching staff with a 3-0 record and 2.00 ERA with five starts so far in the 2026 season. The Milford, Ind. native has pitched a team-high 27.0 innings over starts against Manhattan, Miami (Fla.), UMass Lowell, Penn State, and Western Kentucky.
Brooks went 15.1 consecutive scoreless innings earlier this season across starts against Manhattan, Miami (Fla.), UMass Lowell, and Penn State. He also carried a no-hitter through the first 7.2 innings against UMass Lowell, and followed up with 7.0 innings allowing three hits and a run while striking out seven against Penn State in Nassau, Bahamas.
He currently sits fourth in the Missouri Valley in ERA (2.00), second in wins (3), and fourth in strikeouts (20). Brooks is currently 12th in the NCAA in WHIP on the year at 0.63.
While the field for this year's award is deep, there are some familiar names on the list. Texas sophomore Dylan Volantis was a National Pitcher of the Year finalist last year. He is the only one of five finalists to return to the watch list in 2026. Three pitchers on the watch list have already won National Pitcher of the Week honors in 2026, including Grant Govel (USC), Andrew Herrmann (Louisiana) and Dax Whitney (Oregon State).
The National Pitcher of the Year Award was first awarded in 2009. Previous winners of the award are Stephen Strasburg, RHP, San Diego State, 2009; Alex Wimmers, RHP, Ohio State, 2010; Trevor Bauer, UCLA, RHP, 2011; Mark Appel, RHP, Stanford, 2012; Jonathan Gray, RHP, Oklahoma, 2013; Aaron Nola, RHP, LSU, 2014; Carson Fulmer, RHP, Vanderbilt, 2015; Eric Lauer, LHP, Kent State, 2016; Steven Gingery, LHP, Texas Tech, 2017; Luke Heimlich, LHP, Oregon State, 2018; Ethan Small, LHP, Mississippi State, 2019; Kevin Kopps, RHP, Arkansas, 2021; Cooper Hjerpe, LHP, Oregon State, 2022; Paul Skenes, RHP, LSU, 2023; Hagen Smith, LHP, Arkansas, 2024 and Jake Knapp, RHP, North Carolina, 2025.
The National Pitcher of the Week is one of four weekly awards presented by the College Baseball Foundation. The CBF also awards the Brooks Wallace Award, John Olerud Award and Buster Posey Collegiate Catcher of the Week.
