WEST LAFAYETTE Ind. – Purdue scored a trio of first half goals and added a late Lillian Bane goal in the second half as Indiana State fell to the host Boilermakers in the 2025 regular season opener for both teams, 4-0.
The Sycamores (0-1) faced a relentless Purdue (1-0) offensive attack in the match as the Boilermakers out-shot Indiana State 26-4 and had the 14-2 edge in shots on goal in the fifth matchup all-time between the two programs. Purdue also held possession of the ball inside the Indiana State half of the field nearly 62 percent of the match in claiming the win.
Indiana State had several chances to find the net throughout the match with
Tori Angelo nearly answering Purdue's first goal with one of her own inside the sixth minute of the match. The sophomore forward poked the ball away from the Boilermaker defender near the midfield and touched it once before firing the ball toward the net. However, Purdue goalkeeper Emily Edwards made the save near the top of the box to keep the Sycamores off the board.
Alex Lehnert made a run later in the first half in the 25th minute, but her attempt was deflected away.
Brooklyn Woods added a free kick in the 38th minute from 30 yards out, but her shot attempt sailed over the crossbar and on top of the net as the Sycamores remained off the scoreboard.
Lola Minic, making her first regular season start in goal for Indiana State, was challenged early and often inside the net with Purdue striking first in the second minute of the match. Minic made several diving stops over the first 45 minutes among her six saves in the contest, but Purdue was able to find the net three times to take the 3-0 lead into the halftime break.
Both teams settled into a defensive stalemate in the second half with Indiana State goalkeeper
Delaney Timmons making several key saves to keep the match at the three-goal margin.
Indiana State's best scoring opportunity came in the 74th minute of the match as
Addison Hamm nearly tracked down the ball midway between the midfield stripe and the goal box, colliding with an advancing Edwards as Purdue stretched their offense forward. The deflection settled in front of
Addyson Warner and she fired from four steps inside the midfield line, but the ball bounced to the left of the open goal to keep it a 3-0 match.
Purdue added the final goal in the 84th minute as Timmons stopped a point-blank header in the box, but the deflection ricocheted back to the Boilermakers' Lillian Bane and she was able to convert on the attempt to provide the final 4-0 scoring margin.
Woods led Indiana State's offense with two shots, including one shot on goal. Angelo and Warner picked up the other two shots for the Sycamores in the loss.
Minic and Timmons combined for 10 saves in net over the 90 minutes with the Sycamore goalkeeping duo splitting halves inside the net.
Irene Campo, Chiara Singarella, Lauren Adam, and Bane all scored for Purdue in the win. Edwards recorded two saves in goal to complete the shutout.
How They Scored
- 2' – Purdue took the early 1-0 lead as Megan Santa Cruz sent the ball into the box to an open Irene Campo at the 1:54 mark. Campo shot the ball past Indiana State keeper Lola Minic in the 1v1 opportunity in the box into the bottom left of the goal to put Purdue ahead early.
- 23' – Chiara Singarella dribbled the ball down the end line from the left corner and navigated the gap to slide the ball past the Sycamore goalkeeper and across the goal line to double the Boilermakers' lead at the 22:54 mark.
- 45' – Lauren Adam put Purdue up 3-0 just before the halftime break as she launched a shot from near midfield. The ball deflected off an Indiana State defender at the top of the box and redirected before Minic was able to react to add to the Boilermaker lead.
- 84' – Indiana State goalkeeper Delaney Timmons stopped a point-blank header in front of the net, but the ball ricocheted back to Purdue's Lillian Bane and she was able to put into the top right of the net off a deflection to stretch the Boilermakers' lead to 4-0.
