Sycamores Welcome UIC for Senior Weekend Finale at Price Field

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State Softball returns to Price Field this weekend, April 25-27, for its final home series of the 2025 season, hosting UIC with game times set for 3 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday, and noon on Sunday—all streaming live on ESPN+.

In addition to the action on the field, the Sycamores will host a series of special events throughout the weekend, including Childhood Cancer Awareness and State Dance Marathon Day on Friday, Senior Day on Saturday, and Alumni Day on Sunday.

Before Saturday afternoon's game, we will be honoring three seniors: #20 Cassi Newbanks from Oreana, Ill., #26 Livi Colip from Indianapolis, Ind., and #71 Hailey Griffin from Oak Creek, Wis. All three have played all four years as Sycamores and have made significant contributions to the team.

The Sycamores (15-30, 9-10) enter the weekend ranked seventh overall in the Missouri Valley Conference standings, while UIC sits in 11th with a record of 8-39 overall and 4-16 in conference play.

Last Time Out:
Indiana State came up short in its final midweek and non-conference contest of the season, falling 8-0 in six innings to Eastern Illinois on Tuesday at Williams Field.

Hailey Griffin got the start in the circle for the Sycamores, with Lauren Sackett and Annie Waggoner coming on in relief. Eastern Illinois used a big fourth inning to take control and added runs in the fifth and sixth to close out the run-rule win.

Offensively, Indiana State was held to three hits, with Morgan Goodrich, Hannah Welch, and Luci Kapelka each tallying one.

Sycamore Standouts:
The Sycamores have a team batting average of .248 through 45 games, with 1194 at-bats, 153 runs, and 296 hits. They've recorded 44 doubles, 9 triples, and 9 home runs, totaling 123 RBIs and 385 total bases. The team has a .322 slugging percentage and a .327 on-base percentage, with 124 walks and 19 hit-by-pitches. They have stolen 37 bases in 46 attempts.

Morgan Goodrich has been a standout for the Sycamores, leading the team with a .302 batting average, a .408 on-base percentage, and a perfect 7-7 in stolen bases. She has also recorded 39 hits and 10 RBIs over 44 games. 

Lauren Marsicek follows closely with a .299 average, 35 hits, 14 RBIs, and a .368 slugging percentage across 44 games. Madison Poulson has also been a key contributor, posting a .298 average with 37 hits, 8 stolen bases (tied for 10th in the MVC), and a .365 on-base percentage in 40 games.

Hannah Welch leads the team with 20 RBIs, in addition to her .241 average, 32 hits, 2 home runs, and 10 stolen bases, ranking 8th in the MVC in stolen bases. Brailey Mills has added 19 hits and a .390 on-base percentage in 38 games. 

In the Circle:
Hailey Griffin has led the Sycamores in the circle this season, posting a team-best 2.80 ERA, which ranks 8th in the Missouri Valley Conference. She also ranks 3rd in opponent batting average at .213 and 4th in total strikeouts with 104. Griffin holds an 8-7 record over 24 appearances and 20 starts, logging 112.2 innings.

Lauren Sackett has also played a key role, striking out 85 batters—7th-most in the MVC—and ranking 2nd in strikeouts looking with 38. She's appeared in 23 games with 15 starts, pitching 101.0 innings with a 3.60 ERA.

Megan Asher has provided support out of the bullpen with a 3.90 ERA across 23.1 innings, while Cassi Newbanks has earned four wins in 17 appearances. Annie Waggoner has made seven appearances, including two starts, rounding out the Sycamore pitching staff.

Scouting UIC:
The Flames have a batting average of .253 through 47 games, recording 304 hits. They have accumulated 53 doubles, 8 triples, and 9 home runs, driving in 139 RBIs and totaling 400 bases for a .333 slugging percentage. With an on-base percentage of .309, they have successfully stolen 9 bases out of 16 attempts. 

Jasmine Whorley has made the most appearances for the Flames this season in the circle, posting a 6.96 ERA through 31 games and 20 starts. In 116.1 innings pitched, she has allowed 151 hits, 112 runs, and 90 earned runs, while striking out 49 batters and walking 68.

Hailey Cowing has been an offensive force for UIC this season, boasting a team-high .355 batting average through 46 games. She has recorded 49 hits in 138 at-bats, including 8 doubles, 1 triple, and 2 home runs. Cowing has driven in 21 RBIs and tallied 65 total bases for a .471 slugging percentage. 

Matchup History:
Indiana State has faced UIC in softball since their first matchup on March 8, 1993, with the most recent meeting on April 14, 2024, ending in a 6-3 loss for the Sycamores. The series has been competitive, with the Flames leading the all-time record 7-5.

The Sycamores have a 3-0 record at home against UIC, while their away record is 1-2. Overall, Indiana State has scored 56 total runs against UIC, averaging 4.67 runs per game. Last season, the Flames took the series after Indiana State won game one 7-3. UIC then bounced back to win games two and three, with scores of 4-1 and 6-3,

Up Next: The Sycamores will hit the road for their final regular season series, traveling to Belmont May 2-4 before heading to Des Moines, Iowa for the start of the MVC Tournament on Wednesday, May 7.
