PALM COAST, Fla. – Indiana State women's golf earns their first victory of the spring with a win at the PFW Hammock Beach Invitational.
Briana LeMaire was the individual medalist for the first time in her collegiate career, finishing +4 through the two-round tournament to lead the field.
FINAL RESULTS
The Sycamores shot a two-day 601 (300-301) to earn the victory. This win marks the first time Indiana State won two tournaments in an academic season since the 2016-17 season. With the two round scores in the tournament, dating back to the fall the Sycamores have shot a collective 301-or-better in five of the last six rounds on par-72 courses.
All Sycamores finished in the top half of the field, led to victory by
Briana LeMaire who earned her first collegiate individual victory shooting a 148 (+4, 75-73) through the tournament. Dating back to the fall, she has placed top five in the last two of three tournaments (T5, Braun Intercollegiate). Her one-over second round marks the lowest round since she shot one-under on the first day of the Roseann Schwartz in mid-September.
This win for LeMaire marks her third top-five-or-better finish in her collegiate career, placing tied for fifth at the Braun Intercollegiate in the fall and in fourth at the ISU Spring Invite last spring.
In the first round, the junior shot one-under through the front nine before ending the round with four pars and a birdie. She then used two birdies in the last four holes of the second round to save her one-over score on day two.
Two Sycamores sophomores trailed LeMaire closely, landing in the top five in the field.
Sophia Florek shot a 150 (+6, 75-75) to bring home a third-place finish, her best finish of her career.
Rosalie DiNunzio tied for fourth place with a two-day score of 151 (+7, 74-77) to place the lowest in her career.
Florek showed consistency in the tournament, finishing +1, +2, +2, +1 through each of the round of nine holes. Her two rounds of three-over are her best since the Roseann Schwartz tournament, a +2 in the second round. DiNunzio's hot start on day one helped propel her to her fourth-place finish, which was shooting two-under on the front nine. DiNunzio's two-over round is her best since the same tournament when she shot an even par.
Yang Tai finished tied for sixth place with a 152 (+8, 76-76) to cap four Sycamores placing in the top 10. Tai was another consistent golfer, finishing two-over on each of the front and back nines. She led the field in par-fours.
Gabby Cone rounded out the five Sycamores in the starting five finishing +14 (158, 80-78) between the two rounds, placing tied for 16th. The freshman saved her placement by capping the back nine on day two one-over. Her 78 matches her career low, set earlier in the week at the first tournament.
On the individual side,
Eliza Baker and
Nicole Feistl each finished +11 to land tied in 13th place. Baker's (155, 77-78) best round of nine was the front nine on day two, while Feistl (155, 76-79) started with a strong one-under opening nine. Baker's 77 in the first round marks a new season low. Feistl's opening round shooting 76 (+4) marks a new career low for the freshman (she shot a 75 on a par-70 course in the fall, making her total score +5 to par). She also tied for the most pars in the tournament with 24.
Alana Gilbert capped the Sycamores finishing tied in 16th place with a 158 (+14, 82-76). The freshman came back after concluding the first day with an 82 and opened day two's front nine going two-under.
