TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State heads into the weekend series in Port Charlotte, Fla. with Northeastern riding a three-game winning streak as the Sycamores and Huskies meet at Centennial Park for a three-game series. First pitch on Saturday afternoon starts at 1 p.m., while Sunday's game is set for a noon first pitch.

The Sycamores (3-1) are riding a three-game winning streak following their Tuesday evening 8-5 win over Florida Gulf Coast in Swanson Stadium. Wednesday's scheduled contest between Indiana State and the Eagles was canceled due to unplayable field conditions following storms in the area.
Carter Beck and
Keegan Garis both homered for the Sycamores as the Indiana State offense picked up where they left off from the weekend in taking control of Tuesday's game early.
Max McEwen went 3.2 innings in solid relief, while
Zac Laird and
Gavin Morris kept the Eagles off the board by escaping runners on base situations late to secure Indiana State's third consecutive win.
The Sycamores scored six runs in the second inning highlighted by Garis' RBI double down the left field line, before Beck connected on his second home run of the 2025 season scoring
Thomas Emerich to cap the frame and give Indiana State the 6-0 lead. Garis added a solo home run, his first at Indiana State, in the third inning to keep the momentum with the Sycamores.
The Indiana State offense added late insurance in the top of the seventh inning with a two-out rally against FGCU reliever Ryland Bozenhard. Pena connected on a one-out single and advanced to second after Beck was hit by a pitch. Two batters later,
Nick Sutherlin lined a 1-1 offering down the right field line allowing Pena to score and give Indiana State the 8-5 lead.
Beck and Garis had two hits and two RBIs apiece on their way to leading Indiana State's hitting efforts in the game. Garis scored twice in the game, while Pena, Sutherlin, Martinez, and Emerich all had RBIs in the win.
Spencer went the first 3.0 innings on the mound allowing five hits and four runs in his first start with the Sycamores. McEwen went 3.2 innings allowing just one unearned run, while
Breyllin Suriel, Laird, and Morris combined to go the final 2.1 innings in closing out the win.
Beck leads the Indiana State offense with a .533 batting average with hits in all four games to date in his Sycamore career. The Carnduff, Saskatchewan, Canada native has a team-high eight hits, including a pair of home runs, while tying for the team lead with eight RBIs.
Freshman catcher
Jeremy Martinez is hitting .467 overall on the season with a trio of doubles, while
Keegan Garis (.462),
Thomas Emerich (.438),
Nick Sutherlin (.417), and
Carlos Pena (.400) all hitting .400-plus for the 2025 season. Emerich leads the team with four doubles, while Pena is tied with Beck with two home runs. Pena,
Jorge Cartagena (.333), and Beck are all tied for the team lead with eight RBIs.
The Sycamores are hitting .354 over the first four games of the season with 57 hits including 18 doubles and nine home runs. Indiana State has scored 62 runs with 58 RBIs, while posting a .462 on-base percentage and .634 slugging percentage.
Fourteen different Indiana State pitchers have seen time on the mound to date in the 2025 season with McEwen,
Ty Brooks, and
Grant Parson all picking up wins early in the year. McEwen leads the way with a 0.00 ERA over 6.2 innings out of the bullpen, while posting a team-leading seven strikeouts and a .160 opponent batting average.
Brooks and Parson both went 5.0 innings in their inaugural starts with the Sycamores with Parson taking the Friday afternoon 16-6 win over Wagner allowing two runs and five hits while striking out six. Brooks pitched around wait times that neared 40-plus minutes over two big innings for Indiana State allowing four this, two runs (one earned) and four strikeouts in the Sycamores' 36-6 series-clinching win.

Breyllin Suriel have all posted 0.00 ERAs over the early part of the season. The Sycamores' staff has posted a 4.29 team ERA over 35.2 innings with a 28:15 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Opponents are hitting just .268 from the plate against the Sycamores.
Scouting Northeastern
Northeastern enters the weekend series following a season-opening split at Charlotte over February 14-16. The Huskies dropped the first contest, 6-1, on Friday afternoon, before rallying back to take the second game of the doubleheader with a 3-1 win over the 49ers. The series finale on Sunday afternoon was canceled due to weather concerns.
Ryan Gerety posted a .667 batting average with a pair of doubles over the opening weekend, while Carmelo Musacchia (.375) and Jack Goodman (.375) both recorded three hits. Goodman added a home run over the opening weekend to highlight a Northeastern offense that is hitting .222 from the plate with four extra-base hits.
Just seven Northeastern pitchers saw time on the mound over the opening weekend with Will Jones and Aiven Cabral both earning starts against the 49ers. Jones picked up the win going five innings allowing five hits while striking out eight, while Cabral went 3.0 innings in the opener. Overall, Northeastern's pitching staff has posted a 3.71 ERA over 17.0 innings while allowing opponents to hit .246 from the plate.
Northeastern was selected third overall in the 2025 CAA Preseason Coaches Poll behind defending champion UNCW and College of Charleston. The Huskies received one first-place vote in the poll and 107 total points. Alex Lane (1B/OF/DH), Gregory Bozzo (C), Jack Beauchesne (P), Jack Goodman (IF), and Cam Maldonado (OF) were all named to the CAA Preseason All-Conference team.
Series History
Indiana State and Northeastern have played three times in their respective program histories with the first matchup coming back on February 25-26, 2023. Northeastern claimed all three contests in Port Charlotte winning 9-5, 15-10, and 8-7 (11) to sweep the series against the Sycamores.
The Sycamores hit .286 as a team over the three-game series against the Huskies with four different players connecting on home runs. However, Northeastern utilized the field conditions and gusting winds to connect on 12 home runs over the three-game series and finished with 20 extra-base hits on their way to posting a .683 slugging percentage and .317 batting average in the sweep.
Against the CAA
Indiana State is 11-8 all-time against the Coastal Athletic Association with winning records against four of the five opponents. The Sycamores have winning marks against Campbell (1-0), College of Charleston (3-2), Elon (4-1), and UNC Wilmington (3-2).
