TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Four Indiana State student-athletes were among the group that presented at the 2024 Summer Undergraduate Research Experiences (SURE) symposium program in early August.
Eliza Baker (Women's Golf),
Mia Somenzi (Spirit),
Yang Tai (Women's Golf), and
Chloe Tesny (Women's Soccer) were among the 28 students to present on their experiences during the SURE 2024 Symposium held at the Hulman Memorial Student Union.
The SURE Program provides ISU students an opportunity to participate in an intensive research experience under the direct supervision of a faculty advisor during the summer months. The program culminates in the symposium where the students document their research and present their findings.
Baker's research experience came in the mathematics field. Her group focused on the important role of proof instructors that play in teaching proof at the undergraduate level.
Somenzi's research experience came with the IU School of Medicine – Terre Haute. Her group focused on how interferon-gamma mediates neuronal protection during
T. gondii infection by preserving brain microvascular endothelial cell function.
Tai's research experience came in the chemistry and physics field. Her group worked on modications of P450 enzymes to perform C-H amination.
Tesny's research experience came in the psychology field. Her group focused on the impact of cerebellar transcranial direct current stimulation on cognition in young and older adults.
