Diaz, Magill ranked in D1Baseball Week 12 Positional Rankings

D1Baseball – Indiana State's Randal Diaz and Grant Magill were both named among the top players at their position by D1Baseball as the organization continued to announce their Week 12 Positional Rankings.

Diaz came in as the No. 15 shortstop in NCAA Division I, while Magill clocked in as the No. 38 catcher becoming the third and fourth Sycamores to be ranked by the organization this week. Luis Hernandez (No. 20 first base) and Mike Sears (No. 21 third base) were also honored by D1Baseball.

Diaz has been ranked in every iteration of the D1Baseball positional rankings this spring sitting at No. 21 in the preseason, while moving up to No. 20 through Week 6.

The Toa Alta, Puerto Rico native continues to be among Indiana State's top hitters on the year while serving as the primary leadoff batter for the Sycamore offense. He's hitting at a .332 clip from the plate sitting second on the team with 62 hits, while adding 11 doubles, 12 home runs, and 40 RBIs. He also paces the team with six stolen bases.

Diaz enters the weekend on a career-best 17-game hitting streak and is currently on a 23-game on-base streak. He's tied for the team lead with 20 multi-hit games on the year and is fourth on the team with nine multi-RBI contests. He's currently 10th in the Valley in overall batting average and ninth in hits on the year.

Magill returns to the positional rankings after being marked as the No. 42 catcher in D1Baseball's preseason rankings. The reigning ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove winner has put together a strong offensive campaign hitting .277 from the plate with five home runs and 36 RBIs, while scoring 25 runs.

Magill has posted 11 multi-hit games and 12 multi-RBI contests in the 2024 season to highlight his time at the plate with most of the damage coming in Missouri Valley competition. The Highlands Ranch, Colo. native is hitting .363 in Missouri Valley play with three home runs and 20 RBIs, while reaching at a .420 on-base clip.

The Sycamore catcher has not had many chances to face runners on the base paths this year with Magill throwing out 12 of the potential 30 base-stealers on the year with six of those runners thrown out in conference play.

Indiana State closes out their six-game home stand this weekend as the Sycamores welcome Evansville to Bob Warn Field for a three-game series over May 10-12. First pitch in Friday's opener is set for 4:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU and 105.5 The Legend.
