TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Rachel Mehringer broke Indiana State's 100m hurdles record Saturday afternoon as part of a strong weekend for the Sycamores at the Gibson Invitational.
Mehringer's time of 13.38 beat the previous school record by one-tenth of a second, climbing into the top 30 of the NCAA regional qualifying marks in the process. She was one of five Sycamores to set a meet record during the weekend, alongside
Jason Dworak in the 1500m,
Will Staggs in the pole vault,
Shomari Rogers-Walton in the long jump and
Elias Foor in the discus.
As a team, Indiana State recorded 14 first-place finishes on its way to a sweep of the top spot on both the men's and women's side. The Sycamores recorded 195 points on the men's side and 208.5 points on the women's side, winning by 119.67 points on the men's side and 64 points on the women's side.

Sprints/Hurdles
Rachel Mehringer's record-breaking 100m hurdles performance led the way for the Sycamores, with her time of 13.38 putting her firmly in the NCAA East Region qualifying mix. In addition to Mehringer,
Riley Tuerff ran a career-best 13.89 to move into the program top-10 charts. Tuerff also earned a third-place finish in the 400m hurdles at 1:03.47.
Indiana State swept both 4x100m relays, Saturday afternoon, with the men's 4x1 team of
Casey Hood Jr.,
Daunte Majors,
Isiah Thomas and
Tahj Johnson clocking a time of 40.34, and the women's 4x1 team of
Janiya Bowman,
Michelle McDonald,
Collette Wolfe and
Angel Thomas running a time of 46.30. Thomas (10.50) and McDonald (11.65) also clocked top-three times in the 100m, with McDonald's time ranking among the top 10 women's 100m times in program history.
Alysha Bradford, Bowman, Tuerff and
Iyanla Hunter teamed up to run the Sycamores' fastest women's 4x400m relay of the season at 3:47.40, while Hunter added a second-place finish in the 400m with a time of 55.33.
Mid-Distance/Distance
Indiana State's distance crew had a strong showing at the Gibson Invitational, with multiple first-place finishes and program top-10 marks, to go along with
Jason Dworak's meet-record time of 3:48.19 in the 1500m. Dworak's mark ranked 10th in program history, while
Rachel Conhoff cracked the program top-10 in the steeplechase with a time of 11:03.13.
Also picking up an event win for the Sycamores was
Morgan Dyer, whose 5000m time of 17:28.31 came in just ahead of teammate
Kyra Young at 17:29.01.
Jackson Krieg (3:49.93) and
Cael Light (3:50.97) joined Dworak in sweeping the men's 1500m podium, while
Emma Gresham (4:36.46) also earned a top-three finish in the event on the women's side.
The Sycamores picked up additional podium finishes from
Napoleon Hernandez (1:53.20) in the 800m,
Emerson Fayman (14:46.55) in the 5000m and
Ryan Handy (9:10.05) in the steeplechase.
Jumps
It was a strong weekend for Indiana State's jumps group, as a pair of Sycamores set Gibson Invitational meet records.
Will Staggs cleared 5.31m (17-05.00) to win the pole vault, while
Shomari Rogers-Walton recorded a top mark of 7.50m (24-07.25) to win the long jump.
Also posting first-place finishes on the weekend were
Lawrence Mitchell (2.01m/6-07.00) in the high jump and
Kennedy Merrell (3.78m/12-04.75) in the pole vault.
Landis Brandon,
Brooklyn Giertz-Pfaff and
Selene Weaver also cleared 3.78m in the pole vault, while
Dominique Wood recorded a career-best mark of 11.99m (39-04.00) in the triple jump.
Throws
Elias Foor put together yet another banner weekend for the Blue and White, setting a peronsal best and program top-five mark in the hammer throw (62.16m/203-11) while also setting the meet record in the discus (56.81m/186-05).
Indiana State earned, first-place finishes from
Brett Norton (17.74/58-02.50) in the shot put,
Hannah Redlin (48.10m/157-10) in the discus and
Lillian Gibbs (41.05m/134-08) in the javelin. Giertz-Pfaff (40.39m/132-06) and Redllin (14.94m/49-00.25) added second-place finishes for the Sycamores in the javelin and shot put, respectively.
Multis
Indiana State competed in the combined events for the first time this outdoor season, with the Sycamores fielding entries in both the heptathlon and decathlon.
Kamille Gaskin-Griffith had the top finish in the heptathlon for the Trees, using first-place finishes in the 100m hurdles (14.31) and 200m (24.66) on her way to a fourth-place finish with 4442 points.The Sycamores also had the best high jumpers in the field, with
Grace Quinlan and
Kyrsten Fehribach clearing 1.62m (5-03.75).
Jake Ottersbach earned a top-five finish in his decathlon debut, with strong marks in the 100m (11.21) and long jump (7.02m/23-00.50) helping him place fifth with 6104 points.
