CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Indiana State track and field rewrote its record book Saturday afternoon at the Gary Wieneke Memorial, as three program records were broken at Demirjian Park.
Lillian Gibbs (javelin) and
Will Staggs (pole vault) both set school records in individual events, while
Casey Hood Jr.,
Daunte Majors,
Isiah Thomas and
Tahj Johnson teamed up to break the Sycamores' 4x100m relay record. Gibbs' record-braking performance came in just her third collegiate meet, while Staggs broke his own pole vault record for the second time this season.
As a team, Indiana State had five first-place finishes, with every event group being represented by at least one winner on the afternoon. The Sycamores racked up 23 top-five finishes as a team, while five program top-10 marks were set in the one-day meet. Indiana State also had multiple additional marks which rank among the conference leaders and will have athletes in contention for NCAA East First Round appearances.

Indiana State's 4x100m relay team stole the show Saturday, as
Casey Hood Jr.,
Daunte Majors,
Isiah Thomas and
Tahj Johnson teamed up to run a program record-setting time of 39.64. All four legs of the Sycamores' 4x1 team also had strong showings in individual events. Thomas (10.47), Hood Jr. (10.48) and Johnson (10.50) all placed in the top four of the 100m, while Majors ran a 200m time of 21.24 to place second.
Saturday was also a strong afternoon for the Sycamore women's short sprinters, as
Janiya Bowman ran an outdoor season-best 24.07 in the 200m.
Iyanla Hunter ran a career-best 24.59 in the event, while
Sophie Yovanovich clocked a season-best 12.28 in the 100m.
Alysha Bradford also added a season-best time in the 400m, crossing the line in 58.18.
Indiana State's hurdles group continued its strong outdoor campaign, with
Rachel Mehringer's 100m hurdles time of 13.62 leading the way.
Quincy Armstrong posted a season-best 53.82 in the 400m hurdles and also led the way for the Sycamores in the 110m hurdles at 14.50, while
Noelle Dilosa ran a career-best 1:05.08 in the 400m hurdles.
Mid-Distance/Distance
Logan Pietrzak led a strong effort for the Sycamore distance crew with a first-place finish in the steeplechase at 9:03.70. Pietrzak moved up to seventh in program history in the event, while
Ethan Breen also placed in the top five in the field at 9:21.91.
Rachel Conhoff (11:11.15) and
Alli Steffey (11:21.27) both placed in the top five in the women's steeplechase, with Conhoff's time less than a second off the program top-10 charts.
Indiana State also had a pair of top-five finishes in the men's 800m, with
Caden Emmert running a time of 1:55.56 to place third and
Nick Burns finishing fourth with a time of 1:55.67.
Halle Miller had the top time for the Trees in the women's 800m at 2:19.36.
A pair of career-best performances paced the Sycamores in the 1500m, with
Emerson Fayman (3:54.36) and
Morgan Dyer (4:38.53) clocking the best times of their careers.
Ian Gadberry also ran a personal-best time of 15:15.38 in the 5000m, while
Emma Gresham ran a time of 17:36.54 in her first 5000m race of the season.
Jumps
Indiana State's jumps group had a banner day Saturday, with season-best marks coming in every event.
Will Staggs had the headline performance of the group, breaking his own pole vault school record by clearing 5.45m (17-10.50). Staggs wasn't the only pole vaulter to find success Saturday, as
Selene Weaver cleared a season-best 3.92m (12-10.25) on the women's side.
Shomari Rogers-Walton continued his climb back to the top of the conference charts in the long jump, record an all-conditions career-best mark of 7.89m (25-10.75) to place first.
Ali Ilupeju (7.36m/24-10.75) recorded a top-five finish with a career-best mark, while
Piere Hill had his best performance in the event at 7.31m (23-11.75).
Faith Frye paced the Sycamore women in the long jump with her best career performance, jumping a wind-legal mark of 5.97m (19-07.00) to finish in the top five in the field.
Indiana State also picked up top-five finishes in both the men's and women's high jump Saturday.
Kyrsten Fehribach earned a second-place finish on the women's side after clearing 1.70m (5-07.00), while
Kevin Krutsch cleared 2.06m (6-09.00) to place fifth.
Throws
Lillian Gibbs gave the Sycamores a record-setting performance in just her third collegiate meet, as her javelin mark of 45.32m (148-08) set a new Indiana State school record. Gibbs was joined in the top five in the event by
Brooklyn Giertz-Pfaff, who recorded a season-best mark of 40.67m (133-05).
Niesha Anderson and
Hannah Redlin both had multiple top-10 performances for the Sycamores Saturday. Anderson was ninth both in the shot put (13.31m/43-08.00) and hammer throw (53.39m/175-02), while Redlin was fourth in the discus (46.03m/151-00) and 10th in the shot put (13.27m/43-06.50).
Aliseonna Garnett added a top-five finish in the discus for the Trees with a mark of 45.12m (148-00).
Saturday was a lighter day for the Sycamore men's throwers.
Ryan Golliher recorded a season-best mark of 53.77m (176-05) in the hammer throw, while
Gavin Connelly had a busy day competing in the shot put (14.88m/48-10.00), discus (44.31m/145-04) and hammer throw (47.22m/154-11).
