Sycamores rack up 10 hits to defeat UIC in series opener

CHICAGO, ILL.- Indiana State Softball defeated UIC in game one of the three-game series on Friday evening with a score of 7-3. 

The Sycamores took the early lead in the first inning when Danielle Henning got the bats going for Indiana State by connecting on a single, and Isabella Henning followed with a double to left field, before Kennedy Shade recorded an RBI single to put the first run on the board. Isabella Henning stole home to advance the Sycamores lead to 2-0 over the Flames. 

Isabella Henning was walked in the top of the third inning before Abby Robakowski doubled to left field to advance Henning to third. Kenzie Cornwell reached on a fielder's choice which threw out Robakowski, but Henning was able to knock in the third run for Indiana State advancing the lead to 3-0. 

Danielle Henning connected on an RBI single in the fourth inning to score another run for Indiana State and Isabella Hennings sacrifice fly drove in two more runs before Danielle Henning scored on a passed ball to put the Sycamores ahead 6-0. 

The Flames added their first run in the bottom of the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly by Villa to score Rios to cut the Sycamores lead to 6-1. 

Haley Webb connected on an RBI double in the fifth inning to drive in a run from Bri Marx, to make the score 7-1 over UIC. Webb went 3-3 in game one against the Flames, where she added one RBI and one run scored in the victory.

UIC added two runs in the fifth inning when Crowley hit a two-run home run to cut Indiana State's lead to 7-3, but Indiana State was able to hold the Flames from scoring any more runs and capture game one of the series.

Lauren Sackett (7-9) took the victory in the circle for Indiana State in 4.0 innings of work, where she allowed five hits, and three runs scored, while striking out five. Hailey Griffin took over the ball in the fifth inning where she allowed only one hit, zero runs scored, while striking out two.
