CHICAGO, ILL.- Indiana State softball dropped games two and three against UIC. The Flames won the three-game series 2-1 over the Sycamores.
Game Two: UIC 4, Indiana State 1
UIC took the lead 1-0 in the first inning with an RBI single by Villa to score Rios and put the first run on the board.
Indiana State tied up the game 1-1 in the top of the sixth inning when Abby Robakowski recorded her fourth home run of the 2024 season. Robakowski led the Sycamores in batting, where she went 3-3.
The Flames racked up five hits and scored the final three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the lead 4-1 over Indiana State on Saturday afternoon.
Cassi Newbanks (2-8) took the loss in the circle for Indiana State in 5.2 innings of work, where she allowed seven hits, four runs scored, while striking out three batters. Megan Asher took over the ball in the sixth inning, where she allowed two hits in the 4-1 loss.
Game Three: UIC 6, Indiana State 3
The Sycamores took the lead in the first inning, where they scored all three of their runs in the 6-3 loss against the Flames. Abi Chipps led off with a single and Kennedy Shade drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single. The second run was scored when bases were loaded, and Kenzie Cornwell was walked, which scored Robakowski. Bri Marx knocked in the final run when she connected on an RBI single to score Isabella Henning and give the Sycamores a 3-0 lead.
The Flames tied up the game 3-3 in the third inning where they recorded three hits and drove in three runs and they took the lead in the fourth inning 4-3 when Rios recorded an RBI single.
UIC added to their lead in the sixth inning where they scored their final two runs to advance their lead to 6-3 over Indiana State with a 2 RBI double by Cowing.
Bri Marx led the Sycamores offensively where she went 3-3 with one RBI.
Hailey Griffin started in the circle for the Sycamores where she went the first 2.1 innings, where she allowed two hits and three runs scored, while striking out two. Lauren Sackett (7-10) took the loss in the circle for Indiana State, and in 4.2 innings of work, Sackett allowed four hits, three runs scored, and recorded two strikeouts.
