Griffin named Mark Clinkenbeard Construction ISU Student-Athlete of the Week

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State softball's Hailey Griffin was named this week's Mark Clinkenbeard Construction ISU Student-Athlete of the Week as announced by the athletic department on Monday afternoon.

Griffin was dominant over two complete game efforts on the weekend at the Governors Classic hosted in Clarksville, Tenn. The junior right-hander posted a perfect 2-0 week that included her first collegiate no-hitter in leading ISU to a 3-2 mark.

Griffin opened the weekend with a complete-game, no-hitter against IUPUI posting seven strikeouts against four walks in the 4-0 win over the Jaguars. She retired the first six hitters in the game and pitched her way out of a jam in the third inning, before retiring nine of the last 10 batters in the game to post her first collegiate seven-inning no-hit contest.

Griffin followed up in her next start against Ohio with another complete-game effort allowing five hits and two runs in the 5-2 win over the Bobcats. The Oak Creek, Wis. native surrendered an early run in the contest before battling back to post five scoreless frames and providing her offense the ability to rally back for the win.

She posted a 1.00 ERA over the week allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out seven. For the season, Griffin is second on the team with 33.1 innings pitched, while tied for the team lead with 27 strikeouts. She's also posted a team-best .185 opponent batting average on the year.

The Mark Clinkenbeard Construction ISU Student-Athlete of the Week will be announced every Monday afternoon throughout the 2023-24 athletic season.
