TERRE HAUTE, Ind.- Indiana State lost in eight innings against Evansville on Wednesday night with a score of 6-5.
The Sycamores took the early lead in the first inning when Abi Chipps connected on a single before Kennedy Shade recorded an RBI single to score Chipps. Indiana State scored their second run with bases loaded when Luci Kapelka was walked and scored a run from Shade to take the 2-0 lead over the Purple Aces.
Evansville scored one run in the second inning with an RBI single by Jenna Nink to score Brooke Voss to cut Indiana State's lead to 2-1.
Indiana State recorded four hits in the third inning with hits by Abby Robakowski, Kenzie Cornwell, Livi Colip, and an RBI single by Bri Marx advanced the Sycamores lead to 3-1.
The Purple Aces cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth with a sacrifice fly by Hannah Hood to drive in a run from Lacy Smith.
Evansville tied up the game 3-3 in the sixth inning when Smith singled and scored Wood, but Abi Chipps threw out Brown at home to prevent the Purple Aces from taking the lead.
The Sycamores scored two more runs in the eighth inning to take the 5-3 lead when Ana Macha connected on a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch, before Abi Chipps recorded a single advancing Macha to third. Kennedy Shade reached first on a fielder's choice as Macha was thrown out at home. A single by Abby Robakowski drove in the runs from Shade and Chipps.
Evansville started off the bottom of the eighth inning with a solo home run by Wood to cut the Sycamores lead to 5-4. Voss was walked and Bode doubled to left center before Smith also recorded a double to drive in two runs and end the game and take the 6-5 victory over Indiana State.
Hailey Griffin (2-3) took the loss in the circle for the Sycamores where she went the first 3 innings and the final 2 innings after re entering. Griffin allowed six hits, four runs scored and three strikeouts in the loss. Cassi Newbanks also made an appearance in Wednesday's game where she went 2.0 innings for the Sycamores where she allowed one hit and two runs scored.
