Sycamores travel to Evansville to begin MVC action

TERRE HAUTE, Ind.- Indiana State Softball will travel to Evansville, Ind. this week on Tuesday, March 12 and Wednesday, March 13 to begin their Missouri Valley Conference schedule. First pitch is set at 6 p.m ET for both games and will be streamed on ESPN+. 

The Sycamores (11-12) recently went 0-4 at the Marshall March Madness tournament where they fell to Ball State, Notre Dame (twice) and Marshall. Isabella Henning had a great weekend in West Virginia for the Sycamores where she recorded a .462 batting average which included six hits, four being doubles, 5 RBIs, while scoring three runs for Indiana State. Henning also recorded a .588 on base percentage over the weekend and had 17 putouts in the Marshall March Madness. 

Sycamore Standouts: 

  • Kennedy Shade has been the Sycamores top hitter in the 2024 season, where she holds a .413 batting percentage, which includes 26 hits, six doubles, two home runs, 38 total bases, and leads the team with 20 RBIs.
  • Abby Robakowski is second in batting averages for Indiana State with a .348 and holds a .423 on base percentage. Robakowski has 16 hits, which includes two doubles, two home runs 11 RBIs.
  • Isabella Henning leads the team in doubles with ten from 21 hits and 15 RBIs. Henning has 113 putouts in the 2024 season.
  • Abi Chipps holds a .347 batting percentage where she leads the team in stolen bases with eight and is tied with Shade for most hits with 26. Chipps leads the team in assists with 35. 
  • Kenzie Cornwell has a .327 battering average this season, which includes 16 hits which includes two doubles, 10 RBIs, and eight runs scored. 
  • Danielle Henning leads Indiana State with the most runs scored with 18, and has 17 hits on the season, which includes two doubles, a triple, and 7 RBIs. 
  • Kennedy Shade, Isabella Henning, Abby Robakowski all tied with two home runs on the season. Livi Colip, Haley Webb, and Randi Jo Pryor each with one home run for Indiana State.

In the Circle:

  • Lauren Sackett is 5-5 in the circle for the Sycamores with one save and ten starts. Sackett has recorded 44.0 innings of work, where she leads the team in strikeouts with 33.
  • Hailey Griffin is 2-2 for Indiana State in the circle where she is second in strikeouts with 29 in 43.0 innings pitched. Griffin threw her first collegiate no hitter in seven innings in the 4-0 victory over IUPUI. Griffin went 2-0 on the weekend in Clarksville, where she also took the win in the circle over Ohio with a score of 5-2. In 14 innings pitched, she recorded seven strikeouts, allowing only five hits and two earned runs.
  • Cassi Newbanks is 2-5 for the Sycamores where she has made ten appearances, five starts and has recorded nine strikeouts in 22.2 innings of work.
  • Megan Asher has a .319 ERA for the Sycamores in 26.1 innings pitched, where she has 11 strikeouts and one save. 
  • Annie Waggoner has made five relief appearances in the 2024 season where she has pitched 7.1 innings and holds a .382 ERA, while striking out four batters for the Sycamores. 

Scouting Evansville: 
The Purple Aces (4-18) recently went 3-1 at the Bellarmine Tournament where they defeated St. Bonaventure, and went 2-1 against Bellarmine. Evansville has won four of their last five games and they scored 36 runs over the weekend in two games. 

  • Senior Marah Wood leads the Purple Aces in hits with 20, which includes two doubles, three home runs, 10 RBIs, and 15 runs scored for Evansville. Wood led the Purple Aces to victory over Lindenwood where she hit a 2-run home run in the 2-1 victory. Wood also recorded a 3-run home run in the 19-4 victory over St. Bonaventure on Sunday. 

  • Senior Megan Brenton is 3-5 in the circle for Evansville with 39.0 innings of work, where she leads the Purple Aces with 27 strikeouts.

Indiana State will have their home opening weekend at Price Field on March 15-17 where they will host Bradley for a three game MVC series. Game times are listed below. 

  • Friday at 3 p.m ET
  • Saturday at 2 p.m ET- First 25 fans will receive autograph posters. 
  • Sunday at 12 p.m ET
