CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.- Indiana State Softball splits a pair of games defeating IUPUI and falling to SLU on day one of the Governors Classic.
Game one: Indiana State 4, IUPUI 0
Indiana State won their first game in Clarksville,Tenn. against IUPUI with a score of 4-0.
Hailey Griffin threw a no hitter against IUPUI in the victory, where she recorded seven strikeouts.
Kennedy Shade took the lead for the Sycamores in the second inning when she recorded a solo home run.
Indiana State added another run in the third inning. Abi Chipps connected on a single, where she advanced to second on an error. Isabella Henning recorded an RBI double to score Chipps and advance the Sycamores lead to 2-0.
The Sycamores added their final two runs in the seventh inning when Sophie Esposito reached first on a passed ball and Morgan Goodrich singled to shortstop. Esposito scored on a throwing error and a sacrifice fly by Livi Colip drove in the final run from Goodrich.
Game two: SLU 11, Indiana State 2 (6 inn.)
Indiana State started game two with the lead, but couldn't hold on as they fell to SLU with a score of 11-2 in a six inning run rule.
The Sycamores scored both of their runs in the first inning, where they took a 2-0 lead over SLU. Abi Chipps and Danielle Henning led off with singles, and a sacrifice fly by Kennedy Shade drove in two runs for the Sycamores.
The Billikens took over when they scored seven runs in the second inning to take the lead 7-2 over the Sycamores. SLU added one run in the third inning and three runs in the sixth, and the walk off two-run home run by Kelsey Etling ended the game to defeat the Sycamores in six innings with a score of 11-2.
Lauren Sackett (5-3) took the loss for the Sycamores in the circle where she allowed three hits and six runs scored while striking out one. Megan Asher took over the ball in the second inning where she allowed three hits and two runs scored. Cassi Newbanks finished in the circle for Indiana State where she allowed two hits and three runs scored.

Play will continue tomorrow for the Sycamores at 11 a.m. ET. beginning with a matchup against Ohio and they will turn around to play Austin Peay at 4:00 p.m. ET.
