ALLENDALE, Mich. – Indiana State's distance crew had a strong showing Friday at the GVSU Big Meet, with three Sycamores climbing the program top 10 charts in events at the Kelly Family Sports Center.
Logan Pietrzak had the headline performance of the group, moving all the way up to second in program history in the 5000m with a time of 14:15.42. Pietrzak also earned a second-place finish at the meet with that time, which was an improvement of nearly 17 seconds from his previous best in the event. Also picking up a program top-10 mark on the men's side was
Jason Dworak, whose 3000m time of 8:12.43 moved him to sixth in the event.
Indiana State also picked up a top-10 program mark on the women's side, courtesy of
Emma Gresham in the 3000m. Gresham ran a time of 9:47.17 to crack the top five in program history in the event, climbing all the way to fourth in just her second collegiate 3000m race.
Friday's meet showcased the strides Indiana State's distance crew has made since the start of the season. The Sycamores got season-best efforts in multiple events, with
Jocqael Thorpe (800m, 1:53.74),
Ethan Breen (mile, 4:07.37) and
Jackson Krieg (3000m, 8:25.27) all running their best times of the 2023-24 indoor campaign on the men's side. On the women's side,
Erica Barker ran her best 5000m time of the season at 16:49.68, The Sycamores also got career-best performances Friday from
Morgan Dyer (mile, 5:05.82) and
Ian Gadberry (5000m, 15:26.88).
