D1BASEBALL – Indiana State pitcher Jared Spencer became the sixth Sycamore to be listed among the nation's best at the NCAA Division I according to the preseason D1Baseball positional rankings as the website continues to unveil the top players at each position heading into the 2024 season.
 
Spencer (No. 8 relief pitcher) joins teammates Grant Magill (No. 42 catcher), Josue Urdaneta (No. 44 second baseman), Randal Diaz (No. 21 shortstop), Adam Pottinger (No. 62 outfielder), and Luke Hayden (No. 149 starting pitcher) on the list following an All-Conference season on the mound last year.
 
The Centreville, Mich. native was named a preseason Perfect Game Second Team All-American and named to D1Baseball's 2024 MLB Draft: Top 100 College Prospects list in the fall.
 
Spencer made a team-high 25 appearances on the mound in relief in 2023 serving as the Sycamores' primary closer. He posted a 3-2 record with a 3.86 ERA over 37.1 innings while adding a team-high seven saves.
 
He made his 2023 debut on February 18 against Quinnipiac but hit his stride midway through the season in nonconference play. Spencer posted his first two wins of the year on back-to-back weeks against SEMO and Illinois in mid-March.
 
He added a season-high seven strikeouts in a relief outing against Michigan State. Additional notable relief appearances include a 3.0-inning save in ISU's 4-0 shutout of Indiana, while also going the final 2.0-innings in closing out the Sycamores' win at Vanderbilt.
 
Spencer shined in the postseason posting back-to-back saves in the first two games of the Terre Haute Regional against Wright State and Iowa to send the Sycamores to the regional final. He added a third postseason appearance in relief at TCU in the Super Regional finale.
 
D1Baseball will continue to announce their player positional rankings heading into the start of the 2024 season.

Reserved chairback season tickets can be purchased for $99. General admission season tickets will go on sale as well with adult ($72), seniors ($54), and youth ($40) tickets also being available for purchase. There will be a $5 surcharge added to those wanting tickets printed.
 
ISU Baseball single game tickets will go on sale in the coming weeks.
