Sycamore Softball starts off 2-0 in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- The Sycamores started off the weekend in Nashville winning both games against Western Michigan and Tennessee State by matching scores of 2-0. 

Game One: Indiana State 2, Western Michigan 0  

Game one was scoreless until the fourth inning when Kennedy Shade recorded an RBI single to score Danielle Henning and put the first run on the board. The Sycamores advanced their lead to 2-0 in the sixth inning with a solo home run by Isabella Henning.   

Lauren Sackett (2-2) took the win in the circle for the Sycamores going 3.0 innings allowing two hits and zero runs scored. Sackett recorded two back-to-back strikeouts in the second inning. Megan Asher took over the ball, throwing the final 4.0 innings in the Sycamore win, allowing one hit and zero runs. Asher recorded three strikeouts for Indiana State.   

Other hits for Indiana State in game one came from a single by Abi Chipps and a double by Kenzie Cornwell against Western Michigan's Rissa Bajusz (3-2). 

Game Two: Indiana State 2, Tennessee State 0  

The Sycamores got the lead early and scored both runs in the first inning with a two-run home run by Isabella Henning.   

Cassi Newbanks (1-2) took the win for the Sycamores where she went 6.0 innings and allowed four hits and zero runs scored. Hailey Griffin (S, 1) closed out the final inning for Indiana State with two strikeouts in the victory over the Tigers.   

Morgan Goodrich recorded a multi-hit game for the Sycamores recording a double in the third inning and a single in the seventh inning. 

Up Next:
Due to weather, the Roar City Invitational game times have been adjusted. The Sycamores will now play tomorrow at 6 p.m. ET against SLU. On Sunday, Indiana State will play UT Martin at 5 p.m ET and SLU at 7 p.m. ET.
