HOUSTON, Texas - Indiana State Softball recorded their first win of the 2024 season in a run-rule 12-0 win over Colgate to close out the weekend in Houston.
The Sycamores wrapped up the opening weekend with a 1-4 record over the Houston Invite weekend and avenged an earlier defeat to the Raiders.
Kennedy Shade led ISU with three hits and five RBI as the Sycamores connected on a weekend-high 13 hits and scored runs in all five innings on Sunday afternoon. Danielle Henning and Ana Macha both added multi-hit games in the win, while Haley Webb added two RBIs.
Offensively, nine of the Sycamores recorded hits in the victory against Colgate's Mia Edwards (0-1). Danielle Henning, Isabella Henning, Haley Webb, and Kennedy Shade all recorded doubles. Abi Chipps, Hannah Welch, Abby Robakowski, Kenzie Cornwell, and Ana Macha all connected on singles. Macha went 3-3 in stolen base attempts for Indiana State.
ISU scored first on Shade's three-run home run in the top of the first inning to stake the Sycamores to the early 3-0 lead. Abi Chipps added an RBI single in the second, before Indiana State took control of the game in the third and fourth innings.
Hannah Welch added an RBI single in the third inning to knock in Kennedy Shade and Haley Webb's double drove in Welch and Cornwell. Danielle Henning and Kennedy Shade both recorded RBI doubles in the fourth inning to score two runs and a single by Abby Robakowski knocked in another run for Indiana State advancing the lead to 10-0.
The Sycamores scored the final two runs in the fifth with Isabella Henning and Shade driving in runs to provide the final margin.
Lauren Sackett (1-2) takes her first win of the season for the Sycamores allowing only one hit and zero runs scored over 4.0 innings of work. Cassi Newbanks took over in the final inning to close out the victory for Indiana State. Defensively, the Sycamores had zero errors in the field and held the Raiders to only four base runners throughout the game.

The Sycamores will travel to Nashville, Tenn. to compete in the Roar City Invitational hosted by Tennessee State University on Feb 16-18. ISU will face Western Michigan, Tennessee State, UT Martin, and Saint Louis University.
