USTFCCCA.org – Both Indiana State men's and women's cross country team are ranked in the Great Lakes Regional rankings as the USTFCCCA announced their third regional polls of the 2024 season.
The Sycamore women hold strong at No. 14 in the Region, while the men make their debut at No. 15 highlighting the first time both cross country teams have been ranked since the 2018 season.
Emma Gresham continues to pace the Sycamores' women's team as Indiana State took home the team title in the Gold Division at the Joe Piane Invitational hosted by Notre Dame. The Sycamore sophomore broke the previous school record in the event with a time of 16:58.6 to finish second in the field leading five athletes that finished in the top 40 in the field.
Erica Barker followed Gresham with a time of 17:09.1 to finish third, with her time equaling the previous program record in the event.
Peyton Smith clocked a time of 17:32.8 to finish 12th, and also moved into the top 20 in program history in the process.
Brittney Burak (17:59.9) and
Morgan Dyer (18:03.4) rounded out the Sycamores' scorers at the event.
The men's team makes their ranking debut this week following a strong performance at the Joe Piane Invitational paced by
Emerson Fayman's top-30 finish in 24:46.4.
Layton Hall (24:53.6),
Jason Dworak (25:04.1) and
Ryan York (25:08.7) all recorded top-50 finishes, while
Ryan Handy (25:27.4) rounded out the scorers for Indiana State continuing a strong fall for the Sycamore runners.
Indiana State is back in action on Friday, October 18, as the Sycamores travel to the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria, Ill. for their final tune-up prior to the 2024 MVC Championships.
