Sycamore Athletics Announces 32nd Hall of Fame Class

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana State Department of Athletics announced its 32nd Sycamore Hall of Fame Class on Tuesday morning. The 2024 Hall of Fame Class features Dr. Daniel Bradley (President), Mike Eberle (Baseball), John Gartland (Cross Country/Track & Field), Kelsey Luna (Women's Basketball), and Peter Magnusson (Men's Tennis).
 
The distinguished five-person class will be formally inducted on Friday, January 10, in the Sycamore Banquet Center starting at 6 p.m. The class will be introduced during the media timeouts of the January 11 men's basketball game against Belmont.
 
Tickets are now on sale for the event and available for purchase by contacting John Sherman at John.Sherman@indstate.edu or 812-237-3047. Single tickets are available for $50, while a table of eight can be purchased for $350. Tickets remain on sale through December 15.
 
Dr. Daniel Bradley – Indiana State President (2008-2018)
  • 11th President of Indiana State University
  • Intercollegiate Athletics Programs recertified by NCAA (2009)
  • Ranked #1 in the nation for community service hours (2013)
  • Improved student success as evidenced by increases in retention, graduation rates, and degree production;
    • Significant improvements to the University's physical plant with more than $300 million in capital projects completed during his tenure including several renovations of historic structures;
    • Successful completion of Indiana State's first comprehensive fundraising campaign;
    • Continued diversification of the student body, faculty, staff, and campus leadership;
    • A new energy and renewed sense of purpose and cooperation among all of the University's constituencies; and
    • Major contributions to the redevelopment of downtown Terre Haute and the riverfront area. 
Mike Eberle – Baseball (1984-87)

  • Career records: 1st games played (231); Tied 1st triples (25); 2nd home runs (37); 1st fielding average catcher (.991)
  • Single season records: tied 1st games played (78 - 1987); fielding average catcher (.998 – 1985, 1987)
  • Single game record: tied home runs (3 – Bradley 4/21/1985); tied total bases (12 – Bradley 4/26/1984)
  • Drafted by Baltimore Orioles 8th round (1987) 
John Gartland – Cross Country/Track & Field Coach (1988-2015)
  • 10-time Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year (6 outdoor track, 3 indoor track, 1 cross country)
  • Four-time NCAA District V Coach of the Year (indoor & outdoor track & field 1993, 1994)
  • One of 11 coaches in MVC History named to MVC All-Centennial team (2007)
  • Two MVC Women's Cross Country titles (1991, 1993)
  • Four MVC Indoor Women's Track & Field titles (1993, 1994, 1995, 2001)
  • Six MVC Outdoor Women's Track & Field titles (1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1998, 1999)
  • Women's Track Team finish top 10 in NCAA Championships three times
  • 5th place team NCAA Indoor Championship (1993)
  • 6th place team NCAA Outdoor Championship (1994)

  • Career records: 2nd three-pointers made (263), 3rd three-point percentage (.394), 3rd free throw percentage (.834); 7th steals (210); 8th scoring (1,429)
  • Season records: 1st free throw percentage (.933 – 2010); 3rd three point field goal percentage (.462 – 2007), three point field goals made (79 – 2007)
  • Tied 3rd points in game (37 at Kansas State 11-14-2009); field goals in game (15 at Kansas State 11-14-2009); three pointers attempted (13 at Central Michigan 11-15-2008); tied 7th free throws made (12 at USC Upstate 11-21-2009, vs. Southern Illinois 3-11-2010)
