Sycamores open the 2023 fall season at the Illinois State Redbird Invitational

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State opens up the 2023 fall schedule this weekend as the Sycamores make the trip to Normal, Ill. and the D.A. Weibring Golf Course for the annual Illinois State Redbird Invitational. The two-day, three-round event will run from September 10-11.

The Sycamores will take on the 16-team field starting Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. ET as the teams will play 36 holes over the opening day. The final 18 holes will start at 9:30 a.m. ET on Monday morning. Participating schools in the field include the Sycamores and host Illinois State, as well as Bowling Green, Bradley, Drake, Eastern Illinois, Evansville, Illinois Wesleyan, IUPUI, Northern Illinois, Northern Iowa, South Dakota, South Dakota State, St. Thomas, Valparaiso.

Head Coach Greg Towne will bring five veterans to the course for the opening tournament as the Sycamores will line up with Kristen Hobbs, Chelsea Morrow, Iyoun Chew, Eliza Baker, and Brianna LeMaire to the course.

"We spent the first two weeks of fall practice qualifying, just to see where the team was from the summer," Towne said. "Kristen played well and we had some bright spots the last few days but in general we weren't in good form. We will get our first data point this weekend and get to do it against several Valley teams and a strong field. Our freshmen Sophia (Florek) and Rosalie (DiNunzio) impressed me with their focus and attitude, I think they will contribute a lot to our success this season. Looking forward to kicking things off."

The Sycamores start the year at the Weibring Golf Course for the third consecutive season after opening the fall in Normal in both 2021 and 2022. The par-72, 6,093-yard course is one the team is familiar with over the last few seasons with Hobbs, Morrow, LeMaire, and Chew all back in the lineup for the second consecutive season in the opening tournament.

Hobbs and Morrow return as the team's low scorer last season at Weibring posting three-round +26 to finish tied for 65th in the field. LeMaire was five strokes back of her teammates in her first collegiate action last season, while Chew rounded out the field for ISU.

Live results will be available on GolfGenius.
