Jachec (1-2) went the distance in Indiana State's (5-8) first complete game of 2023 as the redshirt junior ace picked up his first win of the year. The Hampshire, Ill. native scattered four singles and allowed one walk while striking out 10 in the complete game win. He allowed just one runner in scoring position after the second inning and retired the final eight batters in closing out the win.
Magill provided all the run support Jachec needed with his first swing of the night. The redshirt junior catcher connected on a 1-0 pitch and drove it down the left field line to clear the bases for his first home run of the 2023 season.
Seth Gergely,
Keegan Watson, and
Parker Stinson all scored on the blast to put the Sycamores ahead 4-0.
From there Jachec went to work facing two batters over the minimum from the third inning in the win.
Randal Diaz and Magill both posted multi-hit days for the Sycamores as ISU constantly had players on base after tying the season-high with seven walks. Diaz doubled twice, including an RBI double in the top of the fourth inning, while Gergely added his team-leading sixth stolen base to highlight the Sycamores.
Dalton Fowler (1-2) took the loss for Memphis (8-6) as the left-hander surrendered four hits and five runs over 4.0 innings. Fowler struggled with his command in the contest surrendering five walks and a wild pitch while posting seven strikeouts. Hudson Ross was effective in relief allowing just one hit over 4.0 innings with six strikeouts, while Daniel Casto went the final inning for the Tigers.
How They Scored
- Indiana State took the early 4-0 lead on a Grant Magill grand slam as the redshirt junior catcher connected on the 1-0 pitch driving the ball over the left field wall to put the Sycamores ahead in the top of the second. Magill's first home run of the season brought home Seth Gergely, Keegan Watson, and Parker Stinson to put ISU ahead.
- Memphis took one back in the bottom of the frame as RJ Jimerson scored on Magill's throw down to second catching Jake Curtis stealing but allowing the run to cross and put the score at 4-1.
- The Sycamores added insurance in the top of the fourth as Randal Diaz connected on the RBI double in the top of the fourth scoring Adam Pottinger to provide the final 5-1 margin.

- Three ISU streaks came to an end on Friday night as Josue Urdaneta's on-base streak ended at 12 games, while Mike Sears' eight-game hitting streak was snapped. ISU also saw its 16-game hit-by-pitch streak come to an end as the Memphis pitching staff refrained from hitting a Sycamore on Friday.

- Magill's grand slam was ISU's second of the season as the redshirt junior joined Mike Sears (Feb. 21 vs. Florida Gulf Coast).
