ST. LOUIS, Mo. –
Plez Lawrence was named to the Missouri Valley Football's All-Newcomer team as announced by the conference office on Tuesday morning.
Lawrence (running back) earned postseason recognition for the first time after a strong redshirt freshman campaign that featured a 200-yard, three-touchdown rushing effort, while finishing second on the Sycamores in rushing yards in 2023.
Lawrence served as the Sycamores' feature back against Murray State and produced recording 203 rushing yards on 29 carries and scored three touchdowns against the Racers. He took the ball between the tackles for a majority of the contest with a 31-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter his longest carry of the night. He also broke loose for a 29-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Lawrence became the first freshman in the MVFC to break 200 rushing yards in a single game since South Dakota State's Pierre Strong Jr. went for 253 rushing yards and three touchdowns against South Dakota on November 17, 2018. He also the first ISU running back to crack 200 rushing yards since Dominique Dafney went for 244 yards and four touchdowns in the 2019 against MSU.
The Kokomo, Ind. native posted 502 total rushing yards in his first collegiate season on the field. He recorded double-digit carries in five games, including a 15-carry, 60-yard against Western Illinois. He recorded at least 30 rushing yards in eight of the last nine games of the regular season.
Lawrence is the sixth Sycamore to earn postseason MVFC honors, joining All-Conference selections
Maddix Blackwell (Second Team),
Garret Ollendieck (Second Team),
Jose Vazquez IV (Honorable Mention),
Lucas Hunter (Honorable Mention), and
Harry Van Dyne (Honorable Mention) who were announced on Monday.
