HENDERSON, Nev. - Indiana State moved to 2-0 in the Ball Dawgs Classic after beating Pepperdine University in game two, 90-82.
Isaiah Swope, for the fifth time in six games to open the season, finished as the Sycamores' leading scorer. The junior finished with 21 points and four rebounds on 9-for-15 shooting.
Robbie Avila neared a double-double with an 18-point, 8-rebound night, shooting 4-for-5 from the field but converting nine free throws.
Jayson Kent for the fifth-straight game recorded a double-digit effort, scoring 16 points and grabbing three rebounds.
Julian Larry (11-2-6),
Ryan Conwell (10-2-1), and
Xavier Bledson (10-2-3) rounded out the Sycamores' double-digit scorers.
Swope lit up the scoreboard in the first half, scoring 17 points in the first 20 minutes. Swope scored eight-straight, highlighted by laying in a easy bucket, stealing the ball just past mid-court, and making a contested layup at the other end. The Sycamores led by 15 points at the halftime buzzer.
The second half began with the Sycamores holding the double-digit lead, but the Waves decided to make a splash with just inside 12 minutes to play. After a combination of jumpers from Pepperdine, the Sycamores found their lead cut to four points.
The Trees stood tall and grew the lead back up to 10, but Pepperdine stormed back and with two minutes to play found themselves back at only a four-point deficit. A pair of three pointers by Conwell and Bledson iced the game for the Sycamores to hold for the eight-point victory.
