Sycamores downed by league-leading Panthers Saturday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Kira Holland posted double-digit kills for the fifth straight match Saturday afternoon, but Indiana State was swept by visiting Northern Iowa (25-14, 25-12, 25-14) inside ISU Arena.

Holland finished with 10 kills and seven digs, while Macy Lengacher led the Sycamores with 13 digs. Hannah Baudin added nine assists and five digs for the Blue and White.

Holland gave the Sycamores an early lead with a kill, but Northern Iowa went on a scoring run to take a 9-4 lead. Two kills from Ella Scott and a service ace from Avery Hales cut the Trees' deficit down to 9-8, with Gall and Holland tacking on kills to keep Indiana State within a point of the league leaders. UNI closed the set by taking 12 of the last 15 points to win the opening set 25-14.

Northern Iowa opened the second set by taking eight of the first nine points, and the Panthers never looked back. Hales served an ace as part of a three-point Sycamore run to cut the deficit to 12-5, but that was the closest Indiana State got. Kaitlyn Hamilton and Gall added late kills, but the Panthers went on to win the second set 25-12.

A kill from Jadyn Smith and a service ace from Lengacher gave Indiana State life early in the third set, but UNI used a six-point scoring run to take a 13-5 lead. Kills from Baudin and Holland cut the Sycamore deficit to six, but another Panther scoring run pushed the lead back up to 17-8. Three kills late in the set from Holland weren't enough for the Sycamores, as Northern Iowa clinched the match by taking the third set 25-14.
