D1Baseball – Indiana State pitching coach Justin Hancock was named one of the top 100 Assistant Coaches on the Rise as announced by the organization on Thursday morning.
 
Hancock was the lone assistant in the Missouri Valley Conference announced on the list spanning the entirety of the Division I coaches.
 
The third-year pitching coach is coming off a season in which he guided the Indiana State staff to a 45-17 mark on the mound with 15 saves. The Sycamores combined for a 3.84 ERA over 558.0 innings pitched while adding a 534:193 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Opponents hit just .239 against the Sycamores in 2023.
 
Overall, the Sycamores finished fifth in the NCAA in earned run average (3.84), sixth in total shutouts (7), 14^th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.77), third in WHIP (1.23), and sixth in walks allowed per nine innings (3.11).
 
The entire Indiana State weekend rotation earned MVC All-Conference recognition in 2023 with Connor Fenlong (Pitcher of the Year) and Matt Jachec earning First Team honors, while Lane Miller went undefeated on Sunday in taking Second Team recognition. Jared Spencer (First Team) and Cameron Holycross (Second Team) also earned All-MVC recognition out of the bullpen. Fenlong and Miller also earned First Team All-ABCA Midwest All-Region honors.
 
Jachec (18th round – Cleveland Guardians), Fenlong (Free Agent – Kansas City Royals), and Miller (Free Agent – Trenton Thunder) would all go on to sign professional contracts following the 2023 season.
 
The Sycamores continue fall practice at Bob Warn Field as they continue preparations for the upcoming 2024 season. The schedule will be released at a later date.
