TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State closed out their 2022-23 preseason with the Blue-Gray Meet at the Vigo County Aquatic Center on Friday night. The Gray team was victorious on the evening taking the final score 175.5-120.5.
The exhibition closed out the Blue vs. Gray competition that had been carrying through the fall preseason through a series of challenges and events focused on team building and competition leading into the year.
The Gray team secured victories in 11 of the 16 events with
Andrea Putrimas (500 & 1000 Free),
Zoe Smith (1M & 3M Diving), and
Alexandria Cotter (200 Free & 200 IM) all taking multiple event wins on the evening.
Overall, the competition throughout the evening impressed head coach
Josh Christensen heading into the 2022-23 season.
"I was really impressed with our effort and energy tonight," Christensen said. "We've had a lot of fun with our Blue vs. Gray competition over the last several weeks and tonight was a great culmination to that. I'm very pleased with where we are at right now and excited to keep getting better as we enter this next phase of the season."
The Blue Team secured wins in the 100 Back, 50 Free, 100 Free, 200 Breast, and 100 Fly to highlight their evening thanks to strong efforts from
Madie Rutan,
Alexa Szadorski,
Peyton Heagy,
Dorotea Bukvic, and
Marni Gray.
The team also saw several new faces atop the standings with Dougherty (200 Fly), Smith (1M & 3M Diving), Heagy (100 Free) and Agapios (200 Back) all posting wins.
Overall, Christensen was encouraged by the team's success and particularly excited about the resurgence from senior Putrimas in the distance events.
"There were a lot of highlights from this evening but seeing where
Andrea Putrimas is at right now is exciting," Christensen said. "She's battled through some injuries the last couple of years but came into this year healthy and ready to go. We're a much better team when she is at her best."
