NEW ORLEANS – Indiana State track and field was honored for its work in the classroom by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, as the Sycamore men's and women's team were both named All-Academic Teams while eight individuals were named All-Academic Athletes.
The Sycamore men finished the season with a 3.097 cumulative GPA, while Indiana State's women wrapped up the season with a 3.385 GPA. To qualify as an All-Academic Team, the team cumulative GPA must be a 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. The 2021-22 honors marked the sixth consecutive season the Sycamore men earned All-Academic Team honors and the seventh consecutive season that the Sycamore women earned All-Academic Team honors.
In addition to the team honors, eight Sycamore student-athletes earned All-Academic Athlete honors, with five men and three women receiving the academic award.
Nathan Kiger,
Kevin Krutsch,
Wyatt Puff,
Shomari Rogers-Walton and
William Staggs earned the honor on the men's side, while
Jayla Bynum,
Ryann Porter and
Selene Weaver earned the honor on the women's side. To qualify, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and either rank in the top 96 of an individual event during indoor season, rank in the top 48 of a relay event during indoor season or participate any round of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships (preliminary round or finals).
Kiger, Krutsch, Puff and Porter each earned their second All-Academic Athlete honor, while Rogers-Walton, Staggs, Bynum and Weaver were first-time honorees. Kiger, Krutsch, Puff, Bynum, Porter and Weaver were all previously named 2021-22 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes, while seven of the eight honorees were regional qualifiers this season.
