Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Indiana State was unable to crack Evansville's Shane Gray on Wednesday night as the No. 5 Sycamores fell to the No. 2 Purple Aces, 9-1, to drop into the elimination bracket.

The Sycamores (26-21-1) surrendered three early runs on an error in the bottom of the first inning and Indiana State was unable to string together the hits needed for a rally against Evansville's (31-22) ace. Gray (8-3) went 8.0 innings allowing five hits and one runs in taking the win for the Aces.
Parker Stinson connected on a pair of singles, while
Aaron Beck doubled to highlight the Sycamore offense in the game.
Joe Kido,
Keegan Watson, and
Randall Diaz also recorded hits in the loss.
Jack Parisi (4-3) took the loss after going the first 2.2 innings allowing four hits and three runs (one earned), while striking out two.
Jared Spencer added 2.2 innings in relief, while
Brennyn Cutts (1.2) and
Joey Hurth (1.0) went the rest of the way for the Sycamores.
Tanner Craig pieced together a three-hit game for Evansville, while Eric Roberts drove in three RBI as the Aces took the win to remain in the winner's bracket. Chase Hug added a solo home run to highlight Evansville's 10 hits in the contest.
UE's Michael Parks allowed just the Diaz single in closing out the ninth for the Aces.
How They Scored
- Simon Scherry connected on a two-run double, while Evan Berkey added an RBI sacrifice fly as Evansville took advantage of a Sycamore error to plate three runs in the bottom of the first inning and take the early 3-0 lead.
- Eric Roberts and Evan Berkey drew bases-loaded walks in the inning as Evansville went up 5-0 after the fifth inning.
- Josue Urdaneta's RBI groundout brought home Parker Stinson in the top of the sixth inning and put the Sycamores on the scoreboard to cut the UE lead down to 5-1.
- Chase Hug connected on a solo home run over the right field wall in the bottom of the seventh inning to put the Aces up 6-1.
- Tanner Craig added a run-scoring double in the bottom of the eighth scoring Danny Borgstrom, while Eric Roberts added a two-run single to propel the Aces to the 9-1 lead.
