Sycamores Back on Road for Series at Missouri State

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State softball will head to Springfield, Mo. this weekend as they'll continue MVC play at Missouri State with a three-game series beginning on Saturday.

The matchup will begin with a doubleheader on Saturday, scheduled to start at 1 p.m. ET with game three coming on Sunday at 1 as well. Each game will be streamed on ESPN3.

The Sycamores defeated Butler on Wednesday 11-5 at Price Field to enter the weekend at 18-14 (5-4 MVC).

Scouting the Bears
Missouri State enters the series at 13-14 while owning a 6-3 record in MVC play which is good for second place. The Bears have claimed series victories over Valparaiso and Illinois State.

The Bears are coached by Holly Hesse who is in her 34th season as head coach of the program. She has won over 800 games in her career, leading Missouri State to five NCAA tournament appearances.

Offensively, Daphne Plummer leads the Bears and the MVC with a .394 batting average. Her 37 hits and 16 stolen bases are a team-high. Alex Boze is second on the team with a .324 average, launching eight home runs this season which is second-most in the conference.

In the circle, the Bears are led by Steffany Dickerson who has a 9-6 record with a 2.41 ERA, collecting 89 strikeouts over 98.2 innings pitched.

Missouri State beat then #21 ranked Arizona State 4-0 on February 21.

The Bears lead the all-time series 68-29 over Indiana State, with the Sycamores last series win coming in 2014.

Around the Horn
-Indiana State is now 6-1 against other Indiana schools with Wednesday's win over Butler.

-The Sycamores 12-hit effort against the Bulldogs is the eighth double-digit hit output of the season.

-Indiana State's 11 runs against Butler was the first double-digit scoring effort since March 19 against Valpo.

-Three Sycamore hitters are now batting above .300 on the season with Peterson (.382), Henning (.372) and Siwek (.319).

-Bella Peterson ranks within the top-five of the MVC in multiple offensive categories: first in hits (39), first in doubles (11), third in average (.382), third in slugging (.706), fifth in OBP (.459) and fifth in walks (15).

-Lexi Benko's 2.23 ERA ranks third among conference pitchers. She's thrown 11 complete games and logged 109.2 innings of work this season.

Indiana State will remain on the road and take on Illinois on Tuesday, April 12 in contest that was previously scheduled for March 30 but was postponed because of inclement weather.
