GREENVILLE, N.C. – Maryland's Troy Schreffler connected on the go-ahead two-run home run in the top of the fourth to power the No. 21 Terrapins past Indiana State on Saturday afternoon at Clark-LeClair Stadium as the Sycamores fell on the second day of the LeClair Classic, 12-6.
The Sycamores (5-4) jumped ahead 4-1 early thanks to an early
Luis Hernandez solo home run and RBI hits from
Sean Ross and
Josue Urdaneta. Maryland (8-1) utilized Chris Alleyne and Schreffler home runs sparking five unanswered runs to take the lead, while the Terrapins added six insurance runs late in securing the win.
Josue Urdaneta paced the Sycamores offense with his second three-hit game of the weekend as the redshirt sophomore recorded singles in the third, seventh, and ninth frames.
Grant Magill added two runs scored, while
Sean Ross added a double to highlight ISU's at-bats.
Jack Parisi (1-2) took the loss after going the first 5.0 innings allowing eight hits and six runs while striking out five.

Connor Fenlong, and
Matt Gauer all saw time on the mound in relief.
Alleyne finished 4-for-5 with a trio of RBI to go with his double and home run as Maryland wrapped out 15 hits in the game. Matt Shaw added a late home run and three RBI, while Luke Shliger finished 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI in the win.
Ryan Ramsey (3-0) took the win after going 6.1 innings allowing seven hits and five runs while striking out four. Ryan Van Buren went the final two innings striking out two in picking up his first save of the year.
How They Scored
- Luis Hernandez opened the scoring with a solo home run to left field, while Sean Ross added a RBI double bringing home Aaron Beck to give the Sycamores the early 2-0 lead.
- Chris Alleyne connected on a solo home run to right field in the top of the third to cut the Indiana State lead down to 2-1.
- Josue Urdaneta singled home Jordan Schaffer, while Grant Magill scored on a double play ball to put Indiana State ahead 4-1 in the third.
- Maryland tied the game up in the top of the fourth following Ryan Langerman, Luke Shliger, and Alleyne RBI in the frame to knot the score up at 4-4.
- Troy Schreffler gave the Terrapins their first lead of the contest with a two-run home run in the top of the fifth scoring Maxwell Coates to put UM ahead 6-4.
- Aaron Beck drew a bases-loaded walk for the Sycamores in the bottom of the seventh to cut the deficit down to 6-5 as Magill crossed the plate.
- Shaw added two more to the Maryland lead in the eighth with a run-scoring single bringing home Shliger and Alleyne.
- Maryland put the score at 12-5 in the top of the ninth with Shaw's home run highlighting the four-run frame.
- Jackson Taylor scored the final Indiana State run of the contest in the bottom of the ninth putting the final score at 12-6.

- Josue Urdaneta continued his team-leading nine-game hitting streak on Saturday afternoon, while his three-hit game marked his sixth multi-hit contest and 20th multi-hit game of his Indiana State career.
- Jordan Schaffer extended his on-base streak to 21 games following his hit-by-pitch in the second inning.
- Diego Gines drew three walks in the contest to extend his on-base streak to 13 consecutive games.
- Luis Hernandez ran Indiana State's home run streak to seven consecutive games following his solo shot in the bottom of the second inning.
- Hernandez also became the seventh different Sycamore to homer in the 2022 season.
- Tyler Nelson picked up his team-leading third stolen base in the game.
- Jack Parisi's five strikeouts extended his NCAA Division I-leading total to 293 following the contest. Parisi has 24 strikeouts through 15.2 innings in the 2022 season.
- The Sycamores fall to 0-1 all-time against Maryland with the loss in the inaugural matchup between the two programs.
- ISU falls to 0-1 in the 2022 season against ranked opponents.
