Sycamores Drop Pair of Games on Day One of Stetson Lead-Off Classic

DeLand, Fla. – Indiana State softball dropped a pair of contests on day one of the Stetson Lead-Off Classic at Patricia Wilson Field.
 
Game One
The Sycamores took on Delaware in game one where the Blue Hens defeated ISU 4-3.
 
Lexi Benko started the game for Indiana State and lasted 5.1 innings while striking out three batters. Replacing her was Lyndsi Adamson, who made her Sycamore debut facing three batters to close out the sixth inning.
 
Isabella Henning went 3-4 with two doubles while also driving in two runs. Bella Peterson also recorded three hits in the game.
 
Delaware jumped out to a 3-0 lead through three innings which held until the Sycamores plated two in the sixth with hits from Henning and Lexie Siwek.
 
Entering the seventh inning, the Blue Hens led the game 4-2. With two outs, Indiana State nearly tied the game when Henning doubled to left scoring Olivia Patton but Peterson was thrown out at home trying to score which was the final out of the game.
 
Olivia Patton and TeAnn Bringle both finished 1-3 at the plate to give the Sycamores nine hits on the afternoon. Delaware finished the game with eight hits.
 
Game Two
The second game of the afternoon saw a matchup against Georgia State.
 
The Panthers led 3-0 after the first inning with Cassi Newbanks recording her first two career strikeouts to retire the side.
 
Georgia State extended their lead to seven after an Emily Hodnett three-run home run in the third inning.
 
Bella Peterson ended the Panthers' shutout bid in the fifth with a two-run blast over the left field wall, making it a 7-2 game.
 
The Panther lead would grow to 10-2 with a three-run sixth that included another Georgia State home run.
 
Abi Chipps made it a 10-3 game in the bottom of the sixth with an infield single that scored Cassie Thomerson.
 
Georgia State tacked on two more runs in the seventh and would go on to win the game 12-3.
 
Chipps and Peterson each recorded two hits on the afternoon with Olivia Patton and Lexie Siwek both finishing 1-3 to give Indiana State six hits for the game. Bailee Richardson registered a game-high four hits for Georgia State who finished the afternoon with 11.
 
Newbanks struck out three Panther batters to lead the Sycamore pitching staff.
 
Sycamore Debuts
Lyndsi Adamson, Cassi Newbanks and Hailey Griffin each made their first appearances in an Indiana State uniform.
 
Up Next
The Stetson Lead-Off Classic will continue as the Sycamores will play two games at Patricia Wilson Field on Saturday beginning with a 10:30 a.m. ET first pitch against Georgia State. Indiana State will then take on Stetson in a 5 p.m. ET matchup streamed live on ESPN Plus.
