DeLand, Fla. – Indiana State softball took home two extra inning victories on Saturday, defeating both Georgia State and Stetson.
Game One
The Sycamores avenged Friday's loss to the Panthers with a 2-0 shutout of Georgia State on Saturday afternoon.
Lexi Benko went the distance with a complete game shutout while striking out six.
The Indiana State defense made three nice plays in the bottom of the sixth to keep the Panthers from doing any damage.
The Sycamores broke the scoreless tie in extra innings after
Olivia Patton drove in
Kennedy Shade to give ISU a 1-0 lead.
Bella Peterson delivered with a RBI single to score Patton and extend the Sycamore lead to 2-0.
Benko set the Panthers down in order and struck out the final hitter to secure the first victory of the season for ISU.
Game Two
Indiana State won their second game of the day with an extra inning win over host Stetson.
Bella Peterson scored in the first to give the Sycamores a 1-0 lead.
Stetson would go up 2-1 after three until
Cassie Thomerson drew a bases loaded walk to score
Grace Hunger.
In the top of the sixth,
Kaylee Barrett drove in
Amanda Guercio with a bunt single to put ISU up 3-2.
Bella Peterson threw out the game-winning run at the plate, but the Hatters would tie the game in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extras.
Kennedy Shade gave the Sycamores the lead for good with a RBI single to put Indiana State up 4-3. Two more runs would score in the inning as an errand Stetson throw gave the Sycamores a 6-3 lead.
Stetson would score one in the eighth but
Cassi Newbanks shut them down to secure her first career collegiate victory. Newbanks logged seven innings on the evening with
Lyndsi Adamson also getting an inning of work.
