Sycamore Track & Field/Cross Country announces 2022-23 early signing class

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State program director of track and field and cross country Angela Martin unveiled the early portion of the Sycamores' 2022-23 signing class Tuesday.
 
"We are really excited about this group of signees," Martin said regarding the signing class. "Each one has a great story and we believe that their background and potential can help our team continue to grow. We have focused on our team culture the last year and I can't wait to see how they fit in. We have been looking for athletes that are competitive, work hard, and have inner drive. This group has all of those qualities and more."
 
The 11-member early signing group consists of four men and seven women, with eight of the 11 signees hailing from Indiana. Illinois (two) and Missouri (one) are also represented in the early signing group, with information on each newcomer listed below.
 
MEN'S TRACK & FIELD/CROSS COUNTRY SIGNEES
Parker Doyle // Hurdles // Greenwood, Ind. // Center Grove HS
PRs: 110mH – 14.54 // 300mH – 39.66
 
One of the top hurdlers in the state, Doyle is coming off a season that saw him earn a top-five finish in the 110m hurdles at the 2022 IHSAA State Championship, placing fourth in the event. Doyle was also a state qualifier in the 300m hurdles and was a talented football player on the gridiron.
 
Casey Hood Jr. // Sprints // Columbia, Mo. // Rock Bridge HS
PRs: 100m – 10.53 // 200m – 21.18
 
Hood Jr. adds on to a deep and decorated sprints group for the Blue and White. He was the runner-up in the 100m at the 2022 Missouri Class 5A State Championship, where his Rock Bridge team also earned a second-place finish.
 
Parker Mimbela // Distance // Greenwood, Ind. // Center Grove HS
PRs: 1600m – 4:32 // 3200m – 9:22 // 5000m – 14:58 // 5k (XC) – 15:23
 
Mimbela signs the Sycamores following a season which saw him win the 2022 Adidas National Championship in the 5,000m run. He also earned a top-25 finish at the 2021 IHSAA Cross Country State Championship and placed in the top 15 in the 3200m run at the 2022 IHSAA State Championship.
 
 
Jacob Ottersbach // Multis // Henryville, Ind. // Charlestown HS
PRs: 110mH – 14.48 // HJ – 6-04.00 // LJ – 21-09.25
 
Ottersbach is one of the most talented and versatile athletes in the state, having qualified for the 2022 IHSAA State Championship in three different events. He placed fifth in the 110m hurdles and 12th in the high jump at the state championships.
 
WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD/CROSS COUNTRY SIGNEES
Brittney Burak // Distance // Huntley, Ill. // Huntley HS
PRs: 1600m – 5:17 // 3200m: 11:38 // 3-mile (XC) – 17:19 // 5k (XC) – 18:18
 
Burak joins the Sycamores following a top-25 finish at this year's Illinois Class 3A Cross Country State Championships, where she finished 21st. She also placed in the top-20 in the 1600m run at the 2022 Illinois Class 3A Track & Field State Championship.
 
Aliseonna Garnett // Throws // Indianapolis, Ind. // Decatur Central HS
PRs: SP – 40-01.50 // DT – 107-02
 
One of the top throwers in the state, Garnett adds to a Sycamore throws group that continues to consistently score significant points at conference championships. She placed 14th in the shot put at the 2022 IHSAA State Championship.
 
Hadley Gradolf // Distance // Nashville, Ill. // Brown County HS
PRs: 1600m – 5:29 // 3200m – 11:29 // 5k (XC) – 18:41
 
Gradolf adds to an ever-improving Sycamore distance group. She earned a top-25 finish at the 2021 ISHAA Cross Country State Championship, placing 23rd, while also qualifying for the 2022 ISHAA State Championship in the 3200m run.
 
Jazzalynne Hicks // Throws // Bement, Ill. // Cerro Gordo-Bement HS
PRs: SP – 36-11.00 // DT – 110-04
 
Hicks is another athlete who adds state championship experience to the Sycamore throws group. She placed 11th in the shot put at the 2022 Illinois Class 1A State Championship.
 
Rachel Mehringer // Hurdles // Schnellville, Ind. // Forest Park HS
PRs: 100mH – 13.92 // 300mH – 45.40 // LJ – 17-05.50
 
One of the most decorated hurdlers in state history, Mehringer joins the Sycamores on the heels of winning each of the last two 100m hurdles state titles. In addition, she holds the IHSAA state meet record in the 100m hurdles and was a state qualifier in the 300m hurdles in 2022.
 
Halle Miller // Distance // Brazil, Ind. // Northview HS
PRs: 800m – 2:22 // 1600m – 5:27 // 5k (XC) – 18:55
 
A local product from nearby Brazil, Miller adds to an impressive group of distance signees. She placed 52nd in the 2022 IHSAA Cross Country State Championships and was a 2022 IHSAA State Championship qualifier in the 800m run and 4x800m relay.
 
Brenna Sobecki // Distance // LaPorte, Ind. // LaPorte HS
PRs: 1600m – 5:15 // 5k (XC) – 18:37
 
Sobecki is another distance runner with both cross country and track state championship experience. She was 24th at the 2021 IHSAA Cross Country State Championship and qualified for the 2021 IHSAA State Championship in the 1600m run.
