TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State's 2022 home volleyball season came to a close Saturday evening, as the Sycamores dropped a three-set decision to visiting Murray State (25-22, 25-20, 25-19) inside ISU Arena.
Mallory Keller and Kaitlyn Gamilton led the Sycamores with seven kills apiece.
Melina Tedrow had 15 digs, while
Jamie Brown had a match-high eight blocks for the Blue and White.
Indiana State took the first four points of the match, capped by consecutive kills from Hamilton and Keller, but Murray State responded in what became a back-and-forth opening set. The Sycamores regained momentum with block assists by Brown and Hamilton on back-to-back rallies, along with a
Cadence Gilley service ace, taking a 14-11 lead in the process. A late four-point run for the Racers proved to be the difference, as Murray State took the first set 25-22.
The Sycamores found themselves in a hole early in the second set, as Murray State took a 10-3 lead. The Racers extended their lead to 16-5 before the Trees started to rally back. Kills by
Karinna Gall and
Storm Suhre kickstarted a 7-2 run for the Sycamores, with Gall capping the run with a service ace. Indiana State cut its deficit down to 22-19 following two kills by Brown in a three-point span, but Murray State held on to take the set 25-19.
Indiana State took an early 5-3 lead in the third set following a kill by Keller but the Racers answered with a three-point run and never trailed after that. Kills by Gall and Keller helped even the score, and the Sycamores added a block assist by Gall and Suhre to make it 15-15. Murray State went on a 9-2 run after that to put the match out of reach, closing out the win by taking the third set 25-18.
