Sycamores Fall at Home to Salukis

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State women's soccer dropped a home contest to Southern Illinois on Thursday night as the Salukis won 1-0 over the Sycamores at Memorial Stadium.
 
Southern Illinois was active on the offensive end early in the match, attempting the evening's first five shots which included the lone goal of the contest. In the 12th minute, the Salukis got a header goal from Paris Walsh on a deep throw in from Ashlyn Henrie to put visiting Southern Illinois up 1-0.
 
Anna Holcombe and Alexa Mackey both put a shot on goal in the first half to pace the ISU offense as the Sycamores went into the locker room down by a score. Tara Hoffman made three saves.
 
Indiana State picked up their offense in the second half, outshooting the Salukis 11-9 in the final period. Anna Holcombe and Chloe Tesny each put a shot on goal for ISU but were denied by Saluki goalkeeper Maddy Alaluf who finished with four saves in the shutout. The Sycamores finished with 14 shots while SIU led the match with 16. CeCe Wahlberg took a match-high five attempts. 
 
Tara Hoffman made five more saves in the second half to finish with eight on the night, bringing her season total to 34.
 
The loss moves the Sycamores Valley record to 2-2-2 while SIU improves to 3-1-1. The Salukis pick up their first-ever win against Indiana State to move the all-time series to 2-1 in favor of Indiana State.
