SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Indiana State women's soccer fell 1-0 on Thursday night to Valley leader Missouri State at Allison South Stadium as the Bears used an early goal to secure the victory.
ISU falls to 2-3-2 in Valley play this season.
The Sycamores could not get anything going offensively in the first half, getting outshot 9-1 in the first 45.
Nora Henderson fired a shot in the 22nd minute but was denied by Bears goalkeeper Camielle Day.
Missouri State's Hailey Chambliss found the back of the net in the 12th minute on an assist from Abby Couch to put the Bears out in front and take a 1-0 lead into the locker room.
Tara Hoffman made a pair of saves in the first half for ISU.
Indiana State had a few close looks late, putting five shots on goal in the second half but Camielle Day kept the Trees off the board. Five different Sycamores took shot attempts which includes
Carlie Jensen,
Chloe Tesny,
Anna Holcombe,
Josie Bakaitis and
Maddie Helling.
Hoffman faced several tough shots down the stretch but kept the Bears from any further damage and made three more saves in the second half to finish with five for the evening. Day finished with five as well. Missouri State outshot ISU 14-6 overall.
The all-time series is now 14-7-2 in favor of the Bears, with MSU improving their record in Springfield to 6-4-1.
