TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Drake scored once in each half to defeat Indiana State 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Stadium. The Sycamores fall to 2-4-2 in MVC play while the Bulldogs are now 2-2-4.
The first half of action was scoreless through 23 minutes after both teams traded a pair of shots on goal. Drake broke the 0-0 tie with a header goal from Rachel Panther off a feed from Brooke Davies. The Bulldogs would take a 1-0 lead into the locker room, outshooting ISU 7-5 in the first half.
Both teams were active on offense in the second half, combining for 19 total shots. Indiana State attempted 12 and put five on goal but were unable to find the back of the net all afternoon.
Anna Holcombe led the way with four shots while
Katie Yankey and
CeCe Wahlberg attempted three apiece.
Wahlberg put one shot on goal to add to her career total which now sits at 88, just two from breaking the all-time ISU record for shots on goal.
Drake would add to their lead in the 63rd minute when Meghan Brown fired from well outside the box and tucked a goal in the top right of the net. Brown's goal gave Drake a 2-0 lead and was assisted by Emma Nagel and Lauren Kullberg.
Tara Hoffman finished the match with four saves while Bulldog goalkeeper Viany Lopez had six.
Indiana State will finish out their regular season with a pair of road matches this week at UIC and Valparaiso. The Sycamores will take on the Flames on Thursday, October 20 at 7 ET and then face Valpo on Sunday, October 23 at 1 ET.
