Tedrow eclipses 2,000 digs in Saturday evening setback

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Melina Tedrow became the first player in Indiana State history to surpass 2,000 career digs Saturday evening, but it came in a three-set loss for the Sycamores (26-24, 25-14, 25-19) against Drake inside ISU Arena.

Tedrow achieved the mark in the first set and finished the match with 17 digs, giving her 2,013 (and counting) for her career. Kaitlyn Hamilton led the Sycamores with 10 kills, while Mallory Keller added seven kills and seven digs.

Similar to the start of Friday's match, Indiana State jumped out to an early lead in the first set, as two Emma Kaelin service aces along with kills by both Kaelin and Jamie Brown gave the Sycamores 7-0 lead. The Trees continued to put pressure on Drake, as kills by Taylor Shelton, Gall and Hamilton further extended the lead to 16-9. ISU led by as many as seven late in the set following a kill by Storm Suhre to make it 18-11 but the Bulldogs rallied. Drake scored six of the last seven points to claim the opening set 26-24.

Drake continued its momentum into the second set, quickly racing out to a 7-2 lead. Indiana State got within two following a pair of blocks, the last coming from Hamilton and Suhre to make it 7-5, but that was the closest the Sycamores got for the remainder of the set. The visitors scored six straight to make it 13-5 and never looked back in the set. Indiana State attempted to make a late rally with a pair of kills by Hamilton and a service ace by Brown, but Drake won the second set 25-14 and took a 2-0 lead in the match.

Unlike the first two sets, the third was closely played at the start. Drake got out to an early three-point lead, but Indiana State kept pace with the visitors with kills by Keller and Hamilton. The Bulldogs had a three-point run midway through to make it 15-9 at the media timeout and despite the efforts by the Sycamores, Indiana State never got closer than a four-point deficit for the remainder of the set. Keller had a pair of late kills to make it 22-18, but Drake scored three of the final four points to claim the set 25-19 and win the match.
