PEORIA, Ill. – Emma Kaelin finished three kills shy of a triple-double Saturday evening, but it came in a three-set loss for Indiana State (25-22, 26-24, 25-23) at the hands of Bradley inside Renaissance Coliseum.
Kaelin ended the match with 31 assists, 13 digs and seven kills.
Kaitlyn Hamilton led the Sycamores with 13 kills, while
Storm Suhre added 10 kills on 20 attempts along with four blocks.
Karinna Gall had a team-high 20 digs, while
Melina Tedrow had 15.
Indiana State took an early lead following a kill by Suhre and a block assist by Kaelin and
Jamie Brown, but a six-point run saw the Trees behind 14-9 midway through the opening set. The Sycamores responded late with kills by Gall, Kaelin and Brown to take a late 20-19 lead, but Bradley rallied to score the last four points and take the opening set 25-22.
Bradley took an early two-point lead in the second set, but the Trees erased that with kills by Gall, Hamilton and Brown. Indiana State scored four straight points heading into the media timeout, the last one coming on a kill by Hamilton to take a 15-12 lead, but Bradley responded with three straight points of its own. The Braves took a 21-19 lead, but kills by Hamilton and Shelton tied the set. Three late kills by Hamilton evened the set at 24-all, but Bradley scored the final two points to claim the set 26-24 and take a 2-0 lead.
The Braves and Sycamores exchanged early runs in the third set, before a pair of kills by Shelton put Indiana State ahead 8-5. Kills by Kaelin and Suhre made it 10-7 in favor of the Trees, but Bradley scored the next three points to even the set. Gall put the Sycamores in front 15-14 at the media timeout with a kill. A block assist by Suhre and Hamilton followed by a Suhre kill put Indiana State ahead 18-15, but Bradley countered with a late scoring run to take a 21-20 lead. Despite a late kill by Gall, Bradley held on to win the third set 25-23, clinching the match.
