TERRE HAUTE. Ind. – Indiana State women's soccer will play their third straight match on the road as they travel to Toledo on Friday for a 7 p.m. ET matchup at Paul Hotmer Field.
The Sycamores enjoyed an unbeaten trip to the Carolinas last week as they shut out Furman 1-0 on Thursday and played UNC Asheville to a 1-1 tie on Sunday.
Freshman forward
Mackenzie Kent added three more points to her total to give her the team lead with six (two goals, two assists). Sophomore midfielder
Sasha Thompson scored her first collegiate goal with Kent assisting.
Seven different Sycamore players have scored this season and with freshman
Olivia Lovell's appearance against UNC Asheville on Sunday, all eight Indiana State freshmen have seen game action in 2021.
Through six matches, junior midfielder
CeCe Wahlberg leads the Sycamores with 18 shot attempts. Kent and Thompson are tied for the team lead in assists with two.
Tara Tesmond and
Maddie Alexander have made 11 and eight saves, respectively.
Toledo is coming off a 1-0 win over Oakland last Thursday which improved their record to 3-0-2. That sets a program record for most games without a loss to begin a season. Freshman Olivia Dault scored her team-high third goal of the year in the win.
Dault leads the team with six points through their first five matches. Sophomore goalie Emma Boutorwick has made 20 saves and recorded three shutouts. Sophomore Ellie Pool, who was a MAC All-Freshman Team selection in the spring, leads the team 12 shot attempts.
The Rockets are coached by TJ Buchholz who is now in his seventh year as head coach. Buchholz led Toledo to a Mid-American Conference title in 2017. Including his time at Toledo, Buchholz holds a coaching record of 223-173-26 through 20 years of experience.
This will be the fourth matchup between the two programs with Toledo currently holding a 2-1 advantage. The last contest was played on September 18, 2016 in Toledo with the Rockets coming away with a 3-0 victory.
Indiana State will return home to Memorial Stadium on Sunday, September 12 to host Saint Louis for a 1 p.m. ET matchup.
