Indiana State and Drake End in 1-1 Tie

DES MOINES, Iowa. – Indiana State women's soccer played to a 1-1 tie with Drake on Wednesday night at Drake Stadium. The Sycamores record moves to 2-7-2 (0-2-1) and the Bulldogs are now 5-3-4 (0-0-2) on the season.   

A fast paced first half saw the Sycamores jump out in front 1-0 in the 10th minute when Sasha Thompson scored her second goal of the season on a feed from Katie Yankey who found Thompson open in the box. That was Yankey's second assist of the year.

There were numerous scoring opportunities on both ends of the field with Maddie Alexander making multiple stops to keep the Bulldogs off the board and Kelsie Stone making a save to limit the damage from the Sycamores.

Indiana State finished the first half with four shot attempts while Drake recorded seven. Both teams put two attempts on goal.

The second half got off to a quiet start until Indiana State was whistled for a foul in the box, awarding Drake a penalty kick in the 70th minute where Emma Nagel scored her third goal of the season to even the match at one.

The score remained tied 1-1 after 90 minutes of play to send the match into overtime. This was the fourth match of the season to go into overtime for the Sycamores.

Both teams put a shot on goal in the first overtime period but couldn't find the back of the net.

Drake got off four shots in the second overtime but the Indiana State defense stood tall to keep the Bulldogs from taking home a victory.

The Sycamores finished the match with 15 shot attempts, putting seven of them on goal. CeCe Wahlberg led the way with five attempts. Mackenzie Kent was close behind with four. Maddie Alexander made five saves on the night.

The Bulldogs fired a season-high 24 shots with six of them being on goal. Emma Nagel also set a career-high with five shot attempts. Kelsie Stone finished the night with six saves.

Indiana State will return home to face Evansville on Sunday, October 3 at Memorial Stadium. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. ET.
