Indiana State Soccer Picks up First Conference Win in 4-1 Rout of Evansville

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State women's soccer beat Evansville 4-1 Sunday afternoon at Memorial Stadium to earn their first conference win of the season. The win moves the Sycamores record to 3-7-2 (1-2-1). Evansville's record drops to 5-3-4 (1-2-1).

The first half did not see much action until the 38th minute when CeCe Wahlberg scored her third goal of the season from close range. Chloee Kooker collected a blocked shot and got the ball to Wahlberg for her first assist of the season.

The Sycamores took a 1-0 into halftime while attempting eight shots in the period. Evansville recorded nine shot attempts in the first half.

Indiana State extended their lead early in the second half when Isabella Hunter lofted a pass over the defense to Mackenzie Kent who snuck past the Purple Aces backline and scored her third goal of the season to make a 2-0 game. That was Hunter's first assist of the season.

Chloe Tesny sped past the defense and beat the keeper on the right side to make it a 3-0 game in the 63rd minute. The unassisted goal was Tesny's second of the season.
Evansville ended the shutout bid in the 71st minute when Alex Eyler scored on a feed from Emily Ormson to make a 3-1 game.

Kent would score again in the 89th minute for the Sycamores to put the finishing touches on the 4-1 victory. That was her team leading fourth goal of the season. She is the first player to score two goals in a match since Sidney Ewing scored twice against Chicago State on September 16, 2018. The Sycamores won that match 8-0 which was also the last time they scored at least four times.

Indiana State finished the match with 18 shot attempts while putting seven of them on goal. Wahlberg led the team with seven shot attempts, putting four of them on goal. Kent was right behind her finishing with six shot attempts. Maddie Alexander made six saves.

Evansville attempted 15 shots while putting seven of them on goal. Jayme-Lee Hunter and Maria Alexopoulos paced the Purple Aces with three shot attempts each. Michaela Till finished with three saves.
