TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana State women's golf team is back in action this week as the Sycamores make the trip to Springfield, Tenn. and the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate held at The Legacy Golf Course. The two-day event will take place on September 27-28 as the Sycamores battle the field in their second fall tournament.
The 54-hole tournament will be played at The Legacy Golf Course with the teams teeing off for 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 holes on Tuesday. The course was rated the No. 2 public course in Tennessee by Golf Advisor and was designed by PGA Hall of Famer Raymond Floyd starting in the 1996 season.
The Sycamores opened the 2021 fall slate at the Redbird Invitational back on September 5-6 held at the Weibring Golf Club. Paced by
Lauren Green's top-10 finish, the Sycamores finished 14th overall in the field in the season-opening tournament.
With an emphasis on getting back on the course for the first time in competition in the 2021 season, head women's golf coach
Greg Towne was pleased with how his team battled over the opening weekend.
Green headlined the team's efforts over the opening weekend as the Merseyside, England native finished eighth overall in the field over her three rounds. She posted the fifth-best individual score on par-4s (3.97) in the tournament and finished third with 38 total pars in a strong outing for the 2021 MVC All-Conference selection.
Kristen Hobbs,
Chelsea Morrow,
Molly Lee, and
Iyoun Chew also took on the field in the season-opening tournament for the Sycamores. Hobbs paced the rest of the group and was one of the tournament's best players on par-3 holes with a 2.92 stroke average over the three-rounds of the Redbird Invitational. Morrow and Lee both tied for 72nd overall in their first action in the deep field, while Chew improved her round score in all three rounds on her way to close out the first tournament of the season.
Madison Branum and
Grace Welty will both make their season debuts on the course this week for the Sycamores. The duo will take on the field as individuals over the three-round event.
Branum lined up in all six events in the spring season and finished among the team leaders with an 82.25 stroke average. She turned in season-low round scores of 76 in both the first round of the ISU Invitational and the first round of the MVC Championships to highlight her season. Welty lined up in one event in the 2021 spring in her true freshman year and is a former Division I Player of the Year at Westerville Central High School.
